Photo: Chelsea striker, Didier Drogba honoured for charity work in Africa.

37 year-old Chelsea forward, Didier Drogba has been honoured with the Barclays ‘Spirit of the Game’ award for his numerous charity work in Africa.
Drogba who recently raised£400,000 for the Didier Drogba Foundation at a recent charity ball have supported hundreds of children in the areas of education, finance and health. 
Few weeks ago, The Blues legend  launched one of the five hospitals h‎e promised to build for his country as ‎part of his charity activities. 

“I come from a poor family where I played football in the streets with my friends with no shoes, there was no grass but we still enjoyed it. There is nothing better than when you see a kid with a smile on his face and that is why I’m trying to help. I want to do a lot of things in Africa, I want to give people the chance to dream, and it is easier to dream when you are in good health and happy.” He said in a video released by Barclays.

No regrets about re appointing Keshi- Amaju

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) boss, Amaju Pinnick has ‎disclosed that Keshi was reappointed as Super Eagles coach  because the organisation lack the resources to appoint top-notch foreign coaches.

Speaking on the BBC’s Focus on Africa programme, the NFF President said, “We made no mistake in re-appointing Keshi. In his first term, Keshi did a lot to encourage the boys in the domestic League, and the boy who scored our winning goal at the Africa Cup of Nations, Sunday Mba, was playing in the domestic scene.

“We don’t live in the clouds. If we wanted a foreign Coach, we
would probably go for someone in the class of Jose Mourinho or
Arsene Wenger. We don’t have that money presently and we don’t want to be owing our coach.”

“In the past, we played matches blindly. We didn’t know enough about our opponents and we didn’t even know enough about our own players – their strengths and weaknesses. If we had the ProZone match preparation software before now, we prob­ably would have beaten France and reached the quarter finals of last year’s FIFA World Cup in Brazil.”

Messi and girlfriend expecting second child?

If the report on Argentinean news outlet Clarin is anything to go by, then Barcelona star and his girlfriend, Antonella Roccuzzo are
expecting their second child.

Clarin learnt that Roccuzzo is three months pregnant and she’s having another boy who will be named Benjamin Messi.

Their first son, Thiago Messi was born on November 2, 2012.

Seeing Double! I’m certain Real Madrid fans battled their eyelids and probably had a good laugh this night after spotting two of their players Fabio Coentrao and James Rodriguez trying to take throw-ins at the same time.
This hilarious incident happened during the Los Blancos’ clash with Almeria at the Bernabeu few hours back. Sport pundits described it as football’s first ever synchronised throw-ins and the next evolution in soccer.

President Jonathan sacks NPA Managing Director

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has terminated the appointment of Habib Abdullahi as the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and appointed Sanusi Lamido Ado Bayero, a lawyer from Kano State as his replacement.
A statement from the Presidency reads that No reason was given for Mr. Abdullahi’s removal.
“President Jonathan thanks the outgoing Managing Director for his services and wishes well in his future endeavours,” the statement added.
The appointment of the new NPA boss takes effect from Thursday, April 30.

Meet the 19-member Transition Committee inaugurated by Gen. Buhari today

The President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari today inaugurated a 19-member Transition Committee to liaise with its Federal Government counterpart to ensure a smooth transition.
Gen. Buhari implored the committee to “assess the information provided to you and advise me on its quality and accuracy. It is a simple matter that you must have the right information if you are to shape appropriate policy decisions.

“Needless to repeat, that your Committee – and indeed our Government – are not on a witch-hunt or engaged in fault-finding. We want the facts and nothing but the facts. What has been done can not be undone. Our job is to learn from the mistakes of the past and attempt to avoid similar.”

A statement issued in Abuja by the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Committee (APC), Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said the terms of reference of the committee include to develop a clear framework for liaison with the out-going Administration for purposes of a smooth hand-over/take-over and to receive hand-over documents from Ministries, Departments and Agencies and itemise the most important or most urgent issues confronting the in-coming government
It said the committee is also saddled with reviewing and making preliminary assessment of the balance sheet of government with particular emphasis on the status of assets and liabilities of government; cash flow position of the government; quantum of public domestic and external debt of government and their deployment; government’s out-standing contractual obligations and its ability to meet such obligations and the status of implementation of capital projects.
The committee is also expected to undertake a preliminary assessment of the security challenges facing the country and the counter-insurgency measures taken by the government thus far; the counter policy measures being implemented in the Niger Delta to deal with unrest and major economic crimes in the area. 
In particular, the status of the Amnesty Programme, the readiness of the Police and other national security and intelligence agencies in addressing threats to law and order and provide a brief over-view of CBN, NNPC, NCC, Customs and
FIRS.
Other terms of reference of the committee include to suggest “quick fixes” which will result in tangible, visible and practical measures so that CHANGE will be seen after 30 days, after 100 days, after 6 months of the Administration taking office, and to make any other observations which in view of the Committee would be helpful to the transition and take-off of the new Administration. The committee has two weeks to conclude its work
Gen. Buhari hailed the calibre of the committee’s membership, saying they represent some of the best Nigeria can offer. He described the committee chairman, Malam Ahmed Joda, as one of the few surviving links between First Republic civil service to the present day, a man whose versatility includes farming, industry and 21st Century IT and one of Nigerian’s precious assets.

"Buhari has no powers to stop AIT" – Dokpesi

Chairman and Director of Daar Communications PLC, Raymond Dokpesi, has stated that the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari has no powers, to bar one of its subsidiaries, Africa Independent Television (AIT), from covering his activities.
Speaking in a telephone interview with Premium Times yesterday, Dokpesi said attempting to stop AIT would amount to breaking the law adding that General Buhari should be reminded that he cannot return Nigeria to the era of Decree 4.
“I am sure that the President-elect needs to be reminded of Decree 4, and he should be clearly reminded that section 32 of the constitution makes it mandatory for the media to hold public officials accountable to the people.”
“The president-elect said that he does not want to be covered by AIT, but AIT has a responsibility to the Nigerian public to report the things that are happening,” he said.
“There are three national networks available for national coverage in Nigeria, the NTA, AIT and Silverbirds. You cannot stop a foremost private station from reporting in Nigeria, it brings us back to Decree 4 era.”
And on the documentaries aired on the station about Buhari. Dokpesi said, “If they had produced their own documentary to say this is what we want and AIT did not publish it, then that is another matter.”
“What is obviously very clear is the fact that AIT believes that the historical information about the President elect that were ran, were factually correct. Nothing was done to defame him or impinge on his character or integrity.”
“We take responsibility for the running of these items and I as an individual is satisfied because due diligence was followed in ensuring that the things that are contained were factually right”.

Nigerian troops rescue 200 girls & 93 women from Sambisa forest

Nigerian troops today rescued 200 Girls & 93 Women held hostage by members of terrorist sect, Boko Haram from Sambisa forest. The Nigerian Military cannot confirm if they are the missing Chibok girls.

Defence HeadQuarters Nigeria made the announcement on its twitter page:
