Ebola: Group to honour Dr Adedevoh, health workers.

Organisers of The Nigerian Healthcare Excellence Awards are set to honour the late Dr. Stella Ameyo Adadevoh and other health care workers whose prompt actions halted the further spread of the deadly Ebola Virus in the country.
 Recall that Adadevoh and her team handled the index case of Ebola in Nigeria at the First Consultants Hospital, Obalende, Lagos, in 2014.
The Chief Executive Officer, Global Health Project and Resources, and Programme Director of NHEA, Dr. Wale Alabi, in a statement, on Monday said “Adadevoh and her colleagues deserve to be celebrated for their noble role. The late doctor’s courage saved the lives of so many people. Other health workers also ensured that the outbreak was contained. Subsequently, some paid with their lives. Their dedication and sacrifice for the greater good of the nation is inspirational and deserves recognition.”
The event which will hold this month will also feature the recognition of the Best Health Facility of the year in various fields of medicine and many more.

“Our aim is to ensure that we do not overlook certain stakeholders whose specialised services and support in the Nigerian healthcare service delivery are critical and valuable.” Dr. Egbe Osifo-Dawodu, a co-organiser added.

Japan is considering installing toilets in lifts

Japan is considering installing toilets and drinking fountains in their lifts. Hope the two won’t stay close. According to Metro UK, due to the country’s frequent earthquakes citizens often become trapped in lifts for hours, and sometime even days, at a time.
On Saturday Japan was hit by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake which left thousands stuck in lifts without water or toilet facilities. Obviously some lifts will be far too small to install such facilities, in which case collapsible cardboard structures with adsorbent paper bags would reportedly be used instead.
Officials from the infrastructure ministry and the Association of Elevator Markers will be meeting soon to discuss the proposals.

Rafael Benitez weeps as he's unveiled Real Madrid manager

Former Liverpool boss, Rafael Benitez fought back the tears as he was officially presented as the new manager of Real Madrid.
A visibly emotional Benitez who penned a 3-year contract with The Los Blancos said: “This is the hard part, having to speak but not really knowing what to say. Madrid is my home. It’s emotional to be back. I hope it goes well, that the team plays quality football and wins trophies.”

What exactly does Dame Patience Jonathan want?

The above question was asked by a group called Concerned Bayelsa Elders. According to PUNCH,they are accusing the former first lady of plotting to ensure that the Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, does not become governor next year.

“What exactly does Dame Patience Jonathan want? Dickson has proved to be a performing governor as he has within three years transformed the state in the areas of infrastructural development and security. This initiative has changed the fortunes of the state.

“Jonathan should be able to call his people to order because we know that his inability to call his people to order resulted in the eventual face off with Timipre Sylva and Rotimi Amaechi.
“Our appeal is that, as the leader of the state, Jonathan should encourage Dickson for succeeding in keeping the Peoples Democratic Party united in the state.” leader of the group, Ebeletimi Wilson told journalists in Lagos yesterday.

‎He added that Jonathan’s silence on the matter omplies that both are scheming to ensure that a former commissioner, Waipamo-Owei Dudafa, emerges the next governor of the state.‎

He continued, “Why should ex-President Jonathan keep mum while his wife fuels crisis in the state just because she is not getting her way? It is very disappointing. Her aim is to turn Bayelsa into a crisis-ridden state like what she encouraged in Rivers State, but thank God Dickson has been tactful. It is ironical that she has in the last three years been the main opposition in Bayelsa State, intimidating the people and even security operatives.”

Staying out of govt. house is an admission of imminent defeat at election tribunal. —Rivers APC tells Wike

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has described  the decision of Chief Nyesom Wike to stay away from the Government House in Port Harcourt for the next three months as a wise decision, describing it as an admission of imminent defeat at the Election Petition Tribunal.

“We fully support this decision by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, who was unjustly declared Governor-elect by the State INEC, which never hid its connivance with Rivers PDP. He does not

have the legitimate mandate of the good people of Rivers State to act as their Governor. The decision indicates his awareness that his days as governor are numbered and is in tandem with our counsel to him not to make any change either of the furniture or curtain in the Government House since

his days as governor are very limited,” Rivers APC said in a statement.

The party also advised the Governor to limit his appointments to few aides.
 “In the circumstances, we would like to ‎counsel Wike further to limit his appointments to few aides as making many appointments will tantamount to killing the political careers of such appointees,” the party said.

Ministerial list: Fayose writes President Buhari

The Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to accord him the honour of nominating the candidate to fill the slot of the state in the Federal Executive Council.
Conveying his request via a letter  dated May 31, 2015, Fayose said if the request was granted by the President, he would nominate a competent Ekiti professional for the position.
 “Should the request be favourably disposed to, I shall be happy to nominate a worthy and competent professional who can always oblige your excellency and your cabinet the benefit of a second opinion in the serious business of governance.” He wrote

He added that his letter was on the strength of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria section 147 sub (2) and (3) which states that, “Any appointment to the office of the Minister of the government of the Federation shall if the nomination of any such person to such office is confirmed by the Senate, be made by the President.

“Any appointment under sub- section (2) of this section by the President shall be in conformity with the provision of section 15 (3) of this constitution provided that in giving effect to the provision aforesaid, the President shall appoint at least one minister from each state who shall be indigene of such state.”

Sepp Blatter's daughter on his resignation. "I am both sad and relieved."

‎Sepp Blatter’s daughter, Corinne Blatter has described her father’s resignation as FIFA President as a great relief adding that his decision had nothing to do with “the accusations that are currently circulating.”‎
In an interview with BBC Sports news correspondent, Richard Conway.‎ Corrine said, “I am both sad and relieved. My father’s announcement was a relief as it means the pressure that was building up on all sides has now disappeared. In the end it was simply a matter of wearing him down. That was extremely painful for me. My wish now is for calm to be restored, both for my father and for world football.‎ But above all I wish for the world to finally acknowledge the great things he has done for football in the last 40 years.”
