Joseph Edgar's Loud Whispers: Nigerian Comedy Journey Into Sublime Illiteracy

As I go to work this morning with a melancholy that betrays my current state of mind, I decide to buy a comedy cd from the many pirates that pervade the third mainland bridge seeking for an escape. I had hoped that the so called comedy CD will brighten my mind and energies me for the day ahead.
But instead, I am taken into a journey of utter stupidity. The crass and pure illiterate evocation of clowns attempting to be funny further worsens my case and got me thinking. What is comedy, is it the display of illiteracy and mind bending rendition, celebrating utter foolishness. I listen to a motley of comedians from the unknown to the known. As I listen to names like Akpororo, I go die, AY and the rest all I hear are banal attempts at making me laugh.
However, I hear the crowd laughing and this tell me that if there was no market all these charlatans would not be out there making crazy money. Look in Nigeria, we have had some very clean comedians who have in their deliveries provided depth and strong healthy lessons to their audiences our generation gave Nigerians such greats like the late John Chukwu, Art Alade, yes Dare’s father and much more contemporary joke merchants like Alibaba and just maybe Julius Agwu.
Maybe we as a people have refused to come out of our re colonial servitude hence our continuous addiction to these banal offerings from barely literate goons.
We will say, we are creating an industry, we are providing jobs, we are healing society with laughter fine, the industry has been created, deepened and expanded but isn’t it time for us to clean it up so that we can export it and so that it can outlive this generation.
Just thinking sha. I’m in a bad mood.‎

Gospel singer, Buchi celebrates Birthday Today With Brand New Single, 'It's Still Legal', A.K.A Song 55.

Buchi, the music minister and missionary, just released a brand new single titled ‘IT’S STILL LEGAL’ to celebrate his birthday today the 24th of June, 2015. Buchi’s birthday is taking a low-key this year because of the importance of the message in the song, and so Buchi has chosen to release it NOW, instead of his traditional 3 years intervals between albums or new releases.
All of Buchi’s albums have been released at intervals of three years: 1999 (These days), 2002 (So beautiful), 2005 (What a Life), 2008 (Sound of Life), 2011 (Judah), 2014 (I See)… so why can’t SONG 55 wait till 2017?
This song is not likely to make you dance, It’s not intended to. This is a song to the church, for everyone who has things to do for God, the time is now!  It’s the clarion call of watchmen: Like the “Children of Issachar, Men who had understanding of the times Who knew what Israel ought to do” (1 chronicles 12:32). So RISE UP WHILE IT’S STILL LEGAL to talk about Jesus publicly, before the doors are shut completely.
SONG 55 (IT’S STILL LEGAL) has four different versions, features THREE (3) artistes – Iyke Onka, Farlon Lyte (South Africa), and Sam Jamz; THREE (3) amazing music producers (J-Treash, Ceewai & Iyke Onka); and that very important message. Its not about what version you like best or prefer, its about the message.
SONG 55:
-It’s STILL LEGAL FT FARLON LYTE Produced by JTreash
-It’s STILL LEGAL FT SAMJAMZ Produced by JTreash
-It’s STILL LEGAL FT IYKE ONKA Produced by Iyke Onka
-It’s STILL LEGAL FT SOLO Produced by Ceewai
Buchi says “Before I knew that I would ever sing, I always knew that i had a role to play and be involved in a song that would herald the coming of Christ. This is it. I will be eternally grateful if you can as my birthday gift, help, support, share, tweet, post and distribute through your various networks this song, so that this God given message can reach everyone. I Thank You”

4 years after calling off his wedding, Manchester United news winger, Ashley Young weds secretly.

‎Has anyone noticed this? Most foreign footballers often get married to their childhood sweethearts or women they’ve lived so many years with, often mothers of their kids. Manchester United winger, Ashley Young isn’t an exception.
‎‎

He and his childhood friend, Nicky Pike have tied the knot 4 years after he called off  the £200,000 wedding ceremony. The low key event took place at the Stoke Place Hotel in Buckinghamshire on Saturday.

The couple’s two children, nine-year-old son Tyler and younger daughter Ellearna, family, friends
ex team-mate Stiliyan Petrov and  Fabrice Muamba were in attendance.

Photo: Kenyans Buy Clean Water Through Automated Machines

The Nairobi City Water and Sewage Company has partnered with a Danish water engineering company Grundfos ‎to make clean water available to Kenyans via water dispensing machines.
Water starts flowing after buyers insert a smart card into the machine. After topping their cards at a kiosk or through the mobile phone, just like the ATM‎s, they type in how much water they want to buy and voila! water starts flowing into their containers.

The Nairobi City Water and Seweage company charges half a
Kenya shilling (half a US cent) for 20 litres of water as against 50 Kenya shillings for the same litres of water charged by traditional vendors. These machines will be made available in 4 different locations in the country.

NFF sanction: Enyeama and Onazi get naughty on instagram.

Super Eagles players, Vincent Enyeama and Ogenyi Onazi recently took to photo-sharing site, Instagram to make light of their recent sanctions (well, Enyeama hasn’t been punished yet) by the Nigeria Football Federation Disciplinary Committee.
‎The Lille goalkeeper is expected to appear before the NFF committee to explain his uncomplimentary remarks about the NFF’s choice of Ahmadu Stadium, Kaduna for Eagles AFCON qualifier against Chad‎ weeks back.
Onazi on the other hand was issued a letter of reprimand, ordered to
produce a written apology and fined the sum of $5,000 for his misconduct during the said match.
So, the 32 year-old took to instagram to ask his colleague if he had paid the $5000 fine.
“You don pay your 5k fine. hahahahahahaha @onaziogenyi Abeg come next week help me. Send your Naija number to my international number,” ‎Enyeama wrote on his instagram page.
Onazi got the message and appealed to Enyeama to bail him out.

“Dearis god ohh hmmmm, chairman you know say you be my boss, abeg help me pay now self I won start small job make I make I fit get some cash reduce the $5000,” He wrote.

Arsenal agree £10.9m fee for Peter Cech

‎I’m yet to see one Arsenal fan who isn’t happy about the news of Peter Cech moving to the Emirates. Latest on the transfer news. Skysports reports that Arsenal have agreed £10.9m fee with Chelsea for the ace skipper.
The Czech Republic international will have his medical on Thursday afternoon. By the way, a Chelsea fan on twitter just said he prays he fails the health tests. Why evils? The official announcement and photos should released by Arsenal on Friday morning.‎

Why tolls will not be collected at second toll point on the Lekki- Epe Expressway.- Ambode

  1. Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has stated reasons why tolls will not be collected at the second toll point on the Lekki- Epe Expressway.‎ The Governor in a press release issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Habib Aruna, said he’s more interested in infrastructure development in that area of Lagos than toll collection.
  2. “We must start thinking of the future concerning that road. We said we will have an International Airport in Epe, and an Export Processing Zone in Lekki and a Deep Seaport also in Lekki. Should we not start thinking about how we will improve and create a 10-lane road between Ikorodu, Itoikin, Epe and Ijebu Ode so that people can go out from there? There is no point constructing the road, paying tolls and in five years’ time, the road is gone”
  3. ‎He added that the Lagos-Badagry Expressway,on completion would be opened up for business activities. He also said all hands are on deck to grow the tourism potential of the state.
  4. “As more means of transportation come on board, the more than 600,000 private car owners and 120,000 motorcycles that are being put on the road in the state on a daily basis will reduce in number.”
  5. ‎He continued, “We have said this is a government of continuity, but it is continuity with improvement. It is about making life easier for the people. We are receptive to new ideas and that is why we are going to be creative, innovative and thinking out of the box.”

Chelsea fans brand Peter Cech traitor, snake as he closes in on Arsenal move.

‎Football fans have no chill at all. They called Fabregas lots of unprintable names and even ripped his banner at Emirates down. After serving the club for 11years and helping them win 15 trophies, his move to a rival club would be taken as betrayal. So, they probably won’t have much problem if he was joining AC Milan, Barcelona, Real Madrid or Monaco. Give dude some break!

Peter Cech’s move to Arsenal is reportedly a done deal but the clubs are still keeping the details under wraps. Mail sports reports that the world class goalkeeper’s move to Arsenal costs €11m. He will therefore be the most expensive 32+ year old ever after Cannavaro’s record of €11.5m.

We await official confirmation from both sides.
