I'm different from Mourinho on all fronts -Pellegrini

The feud between Manchester City manager, Manuel Pellegrini and Chelsea boss, Jose Mourinho isn’t ending anytime soon. The Chilean has described the Special One as one who is obsessed with personal glory/achievement. Citing last season’s title won by The Blues, Pellegrini said the Portuguese takes credit for everything.
He told Chile’s El Mercurio newspaper. “When he wins, Mourinho wants to take credit for everything. I never do that. When I won the Premier League, I didn’t say a word. I don’t have any problem with Mourinho. He’s not my enemy and there isn’t any conflict – but I differ from him on all fronts. I have no interest in analysing him as a person.” ‎

Nigerian Writers Awards 2015:Nominations begin.

Nominations for the 2015 edition of the prestigious Nigerian Writers Awards (NWA) are now open. The Awards is set up to recognize and commend those who have done well in different fields of writing and have contributed to the upliftment of the society with the aim of building self-confidence through reward of excellence also by creating a synergy, trusting environment and supportive relationship between adult mentors and young writers.
The world today is buried beneath the debris of Media Exploration and media can never be complete without writing been in existence with this fact NWA holds the vision to rebrand the Nation through the skills of writing using the media and to encourage writers of different genre most especially Nigerian young and budding writers.
This year’s Nigerian Writers Awards ceremony will hold at a gala dinner in October 2015 in Nigeria where Nigerian writers, legendries, youths, budding and established writers home and abroad will come together to celebrate with 20 major categories and 23 awards. 
The awards will consider nominations of writers who have proven their worth and commitment in writing, entries will be received from individuals, private sectors, civil society or government.
The Nigerian Writers Awards 2015 will consider nomination for activities in the following period under review: December 2013- March 2015 with the following categories, Business writer of the year, Political writer, Entertainment writer, News writer, Blog writer, Health writer, Sports writer, Script writer, Song writer, Poetry writer, Campus writer, Indigenous writer, Fiction writer, Non-fiction writer, Faith-based writer, Inspiration writer, Romance writer, Child/teenage writer, Young writer of the year, Writer of the year.
The nomination period will run through from June 2015 to August 2015, there will be pre-selection after the deadline of nominations.
Selection of winners: There will be thorough screening on nominees, the Judges votes and the Voters votes will be what determines the winning list. The Award Jury is composed of individuals of high moral stature with demonstrated commitment to the ideals of the Nation who have distinguished themselves in their respective writing fields and covers virtually all category of writing. The evaluation will be based on five criteria; Originality, Influence, Creativity, Consistency and Impart.
Award Ceremony: The grand event will hold on October 2015 in Nigeria where the award of the category winners will be announced.

"I could have accomplished so many things."Black man wrongfully imprisoned for 25 years.

Jonathan Fleming, a black man who spent 25 years in prison after he was wrongfully accused of shooting a certain Darryl Rush in Brooklyn in 1989 has regained his freedom. 
New investigation revealed that he was on vacation with his family at Disney World in Bay Lake, Florida during the time of the murder. The evidence that led to his freedom? Phone receipts. After 25 years????
What do you feel for such a person? Sadness? Happiness? Such wasted years! Honestly I feel both. 
While in prison, Jonathan said “I never gave up. I had faith”. Albeit his situation is very painful, he should still count himself lucky. ‎Many people with similar cases will never get out alive, some have even passed away.
The 51 year-old initially sued New York City for $162 million but will now receive $6.25 million. A certain Alex Sutaru inspired by his touching story raised almost  $50,000 in a campaign for him.‎
He told The Guardian that he holds no grievances against his accusers despite what he’s been through.
“I’m not angry. But I think about all the things I could have accomplished during that time and I come out to nothing. No housing. No nothing. I missed the opportunity to raise my sons to be young men. I missed being there with my mother. Her health is real bad and I know she doesn’t have much time left since she is very ill. All those things were running through my head,” he said.

Enyeama explains why he didn't appear before the NFF disciplinary hearing

Super Eagles goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama’s issue with the Nigeria Football Federation Disciplinary Committee still lingers.  The national team captain was meant to appear before the Nigeria FA disciplinary hearing in Abuja on Tuesday to explain his comments  about the NFF’s choice of Ahmadu Stadium, Kaduna for Eagles AFCON qualifier against Chad‎ weeks back.
The Lille goalkeeper didn’t show up at the meeting because he didn’t receive an official invitation from the NFF.

” I respect my country and those in charge of our football which is why I find the whole thing strange. As the captain I only raised our concerns about the venue before our game which didn’t go down well with the football authority .

” I was told to apologise for my comments , which I did immediately and they told me that’s fine . I only received a letter to caution me about it and to avoid a repeat of such. Personally, as it was resolved in- house I thought that was the end of the matter. But I only found out about a disciplinary hearing in the media but I didn ‘ t get any letter to that effect .” The 32 year-old affirmed.‎

‎Bayern Munich defender, Jerome Boateng’s infamous slip against Barcelona’s Lionel Messi during the Champions League semi-final game involving both sides last season is one topic that would live in the memory of football fans worldwide.
‎Speaking exclusively to ESPN FC‎, the German footballer said he wasn’t bothered about the iconic moment which trended on the Internet for days.

“That doesn’t really affect me. I was laughing at myself. When you fall down or slip in a situation and somebody scores a goal, it’s normal. These things happen; it happens to me, it happens to other players. I don’t care about these things. For me, he’s the best player in the world. That’s football. Sometimes you look bad or something happens. I’m a defender, that doesn’t kill me or anything.”

Ebola returns to Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone has recorded two new cases of the Ebola Virus Disease. Infected patients include a  fisherman who caught it from his girlfriend and one of his family member. This sad news is coming few weeks after the country recorded no new cases.

The fatal illness has killed more than11,000 people in West Africa, about a third of them in Sierra
Leone. 

Sidi Yahya Tunis, a spokesman for the National Ebola Response Centre (NERC) said, “This is worrisome because we had already closed all Ebola quarantine structures in Freetown since we had gone for weeks without a case.”

Joseph Edgar's Loud Whispers: Nigerian Comedy Journey Into Sublime Illiteracy

As I go to work this morning with a melancholy that betrays my current state of mind, I decide to buy a comedy cd from the many pirates that pervade the third mainland bridge seeking for an escape. I had hoped that the so called comedy CD will brighten my mind and energies me for the day ahead. 
But instead, I am taken into a journey of utter stupidity. The crass and pure illiterate evocation of clowns attempting to be funny further worsens my case and got me thinking. What is comedy, is it the display of illiteracy and mind bending rendition, celebrating utter foolishness. I listen to a motley of comedians from the unknown to the known. As I listen to names like Akpororo, I go die, AY and the rest all I hear are banal attempts at making me laugh. 
However, I hear the crowd laughing and this tell me that if there was no market all these charlatans would not be out there making crazy money. Look in Nigeria, we have had some very clean comedians who have in their deliveries provided depth and strong healthy lessons to their audiences our generation gave Nigerians such greats like the late John Chukwu, Art Alade, yes Dare’s father and much more contemporary joke merchants like Alibaba and just maybe Julius Agwu.
Maybe we as a people have refused to come out of our re colonial servitude hence our continuous addiction to these banal offerings from barely literate goons.
We will say, we are creating an industry, we are providing jobs, we are healing society with laughter fine, the industry has been created, deepened and expanded but isn’t it time for us to clean it up so that we can export it and so that it can outlive this generation. 
Just thinking sha. I’m in a bad mood.‎
