Siasia confident of victory against Congo U23

Coach of the Nigeria U23 side, Samson Siasia has expressed confidence ahead of the all-important clash with Congo U23 team in Port Harcourt on Sunday. The winner of the clash will seal a place in the 2015 edition of the African U23 championship which serves as Olympic
qualifiers for Rio 2016.

“I am very confident that Nigerians who will troop out en masse to see our match on Sunday will see one of the best displays ever by the Dream Team,” Siasia told the media at the Hotel Presidential abode of the team.
“As a team, my boys have always created chances, but our greatest problem has been to convert these chances to goals. We have been doing a lot of work in this critical area and if what I have seen in training of recent is anything to go by, then I can assure Nigerians that these boys will make them proud by scoring enough goals against the Congolese come Sunday,” he concluded.

Photos: Two First Nation Airways planes collide in Lagos


Planes collide? Shocking! Whatever happened to the phrase, ‘the sky is wide enough for birds to fly…..’ Two First Nation Aircrafts collided today at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2 (MMA2) in Lagos, News Agency Of Nigeria reports. According to sources, while the one parked at Gate 4 was planning to take off to Port Harcourt, the other was bound to disengage passengers at the Gate 3 of the same terminal. Both Airbus 330 aircrafts conveying more than 200 passengers damaged their bodies during the course of the collision. 

According to NAN, a source alleged that the pilot may have been misdirected by the marshals who misdirected the arriving aircraft to the same Gate as the parked aircraft which led to the two wings brushing each other. Following the incident, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), immediately, grounded both aircraft while passengers were asked to disembark by the airline. It was further gathered that the refunds of tickets were made to passengers on the Port-Harcourt bound aircraft by the airline.

The General Manager, Public Affairs, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) Mr Fan Ndubuoke. Ndubuoke who confirmed the incident said no passenger was hurt during the incident. He also added that the issue had been referred to the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) for further investigation.

Full Text Of President Buhari’s Eid-El-Fitr Message To Nigerians

Fellow Compatriots,

I greet and felicitate with you all, especially our citizens of the Islamic faith on this auspicious occasion of the 2015 Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

I congratulate all those who have successfully completed the Ramadan fast in keeping with the injunction of our Creator. 

Although we have come to the end of this year’s month of Ramadan, I believe that a greater acceptance by Nigerians of its key lessons of self-denial and sacrifice will serve our dear country well as we strive to overcome our present challenges, undo the damage done by years of bad governance and accelerate the pace of national development. Reviewing our dire circumstances and the many missed opportunities of the past, some commentators and observers have said that this is Nigeria’s last chance to get its act together and finally begin to fulfill its God-given potential for greatness.

While not going that far, I certainly believe that now, more than ever before, our country needs greater self-denial, sacrifice and patriotism from all of its citizens, if we are to quickly recover from our numerous problems and start moving in a positive direction. This current period of our life as a nation offers us a great opportunity to break from the vicious triangle of insecurity, corruption and under-development. We must collectively resolve to seize this opportunity and unite to confront our problems.

I remain wholly committed to giving the required leadership towards undoing the wrongs of the past, ensuring that Nigeria truly begins to unlock its great potential and that the benefits of our immense national resources are shared and enjoyed by all, not just by successive cabals of corrupt leaders and their cronies. I was very aware of your high expectations when I assumed office and I reassure you, my fellow citizens, that since my inauguration on the 29th of May this year, I have been working with utmost dedication to meticulously plan and tackle the many national challenges which we identified and promised to resolve.

To succeed however, I need your continued support, understanding and patience. I fully understand and share the thirst of my long-suffering compatriots for corruption-free government institutions that work efficiently to deliver visible development for the benefit of all citizens. I also share the feelings of those who think that we should be moving faster. But I urge them and all Nigerians to trust that my commitment to real and positive change in our nation is as firm as ever.

There is indeed much work to be done, but we must do it well and carefully to ensure that the great opportunity which we now have is not lost to the “business as usual” group who selfishly or shortsightedly prefer a status quo that panders to their personal or group interests.

The adverse effects of years of rot, corruption, inept and bad governance on our nation are immense, but certainly not insurmountable if we all resolve now to place the well-being of our nation above all other considerations and work whole-heartedly with the present administration to achieve greater peace and security across the nation, and reposition our country for faster economic development and progress.

May Almighty Allah continue to guide us and bless our dear nation.

Hector Bellerin commits future to Arsenal

Twenty year old full back, Hector Bellerin, has committed his future to Arsenal by signing a new long term contract that will keep him at the club for another four years. Hector broke into the team first Xi last season following the injury woes of first choice, Mathieu Debuchy. He made 28 appearances and scored twice to secure the position while also winning the hearts of fans. Bellerin was signed from Barcelona in 2011 and he was promoted to the first team a year ago.

Manchester City signs Fabian Delph from Aston Villa

Manchester city have completed the signing of Aston Villa’s midfielder, Fabian Delph, for a fee of £8M. The move came as surprise following the Midfielder’s vow few days back that he will not be leaving Villa Park.
Fabian Delph becomes City’s third signing and has been handed the number 18 Jersey. He is expected to reinforce the club’s midfield following the departure of Frank Lampard and James Milner.
Delph expressed his excitement and intent to work hard on the club’s official twitter page.
“I can’t wait to get started. One thing I can promise is I will never stop working hard for the team” he said.

Ahamefula Rochas, the son of Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha also graduated with a first class in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Manchester on  July 16th, 2015.

Adeshina Peter: Making sense out of the Raheem Sterling Move

Raheem Sterling became the most expensive English player with a £49Million move from Liverpool to Manchester City after several weeks of speculations and unending drama.
Expectedly, alot of criticisms have trailed the move over the exorbitant fee paid by City for the twenty year old who has done very little to merit such huge amount.
Since 2012, Raheem has played a total of of 92 games, scored 18 goals and made 14 assists for Liverpool. Not bad statistics for a player his age but definitely not enough to make him the most expensive English player.
So, why did Manchester city spend such huge ridiculous amount on a player that boast of almost nothing other than potentials?
The answer lies in the home grown player rule enacted before the 2010-11 season.
The rule basically compels EPL teams to have eight ‘home grown’ players out of a squad of 25.
An home-grown player is defined as one who, irrespective of his nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to the Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a period, continually or not, of three entire seasons or 36months prior to his 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which he turns 21).
The rationale behind this is the English FA’s intention to build a system that promotes the development of English young players with the ultimate aim of improving the country’s national team.
There have been a chorus in England over the influx of too many foreign stars and dearth of home grown talent which has led to the lack of quality or options in the National team.
The scurry to fulfil this provision have informed the signing of some players in the transfer market already as clubs are left with two options – promote from within or sign players.
Manchester city will not settle for the option of promoting players from within because honestly, they do not have players in their academy talented enough to make good input in their obvious bid to win the league. 
Furthermore, given the required number – eight out of a squad of 25 (with no extension until January), it becomes imperative for clubs to add proven, quality players that can provide the manager with options and a crucial squad depth needed to be successful in England where large number of games are played.

Proven, talented players who satisfies the homegrown provision are not in abundance and the scarcity will definitely have huge consequences on the price tag placed on available ones.
Whilst Raheem Sterling is considered by the larger majority as another young promising player with huge potentials, his nationality and scarcity of home grown players with similar prospect to his qualifies him as an expensive player and Manchester City just had to foot the bill.
Summarily, Raheem’s signing is out of Manchester city’s desperate bid to satisfy two pressing needs – reinforcing the squad and meeting the provisions of the home-grown player rule. And in Raheem Sterling, they found an answer to both.

Liverpool Bid £32.5M for Benteke

Liverpool have triggered the release clause of Aston Villa’s striker, Christian Benteke by offering the stipulated £32.5M
Benteke who joined Aston Villa from Genk in 2012 has scored 49goals in 101 appearances and also contributed to Villa’s stay in the league last season with 12goals in 12 games.
Brendan Rodgers is believed to be after the 24year old to sort out the striking problem the club is facing following the injury of Sturridge and Balotelli’s below par performance.
Christian Benteke who has two years left on his contract at Villa is expected to complete the move soon.

Juliet dried her hands in the hot blast of air from the electric dryer in the restroom when suddenly her phone chimed repeatedly. She swiped to unlock. They were twitter notifications as she tapped to view. The tweet was nightmarish!Her first reaction was surprise, then disbelief, in it’s wake, denial and finally a howling anguish. Her breaths became heavy, abruptly breaking into violent sobs that racked her petite frame.
Trails of dark lines forked beneath her eyes as tears trickled over her mascara, making a mess of a face that had, seconds ago, been a palette of faultless cosmetic art. She wiped off the rivulets and looked again at the image on her screen: It was a picture of herself utterly unclad, smiling and posing obscenely, posted on twitter!

Every comment she read, in her mockery or defense, shattered her very existence as it cascaded down on her; each shard trapped in the pixels of the image that threatened to pull her into its virtual recess. 
She tore her gaze off the screen, gripping the washbasin to steady herself as she suddenly became light-headed. This happened to other people, not her! She had seen obscene pictures of girls recklessly posted on twitter, some she had mocked, and others she had empathized with and waved off as fall-outs of an acrimonious break-up or feud.
But she never imagined it would happen to her. Not her! Not her! Her singular moment of indiscretion had come to haunt her. Romeo was undoubtedly the devil. How did she always end up with scumbags? His sweet words, teasing smile and ostensible sincerity had charmed her as she agreed thoughtlessly to his whims and indulgences. Her mind poured over events of that fateful day

“What?” she had asked

“Lets me have a nude picture of you on my phone, it would be pleasurable reminder of your awesomeness. Don’t you think?”‎


“No. I don’t want a naked picture of me taken talk less of having it on your phone,” she had retorted


“Come on ….It would be our little secret. I promise not to show anyone, guard it as a gift from you till my dying days. Pretty please” he had said teasingly
His glib tongue eventually beguiled her into throwing away her senses. Now she wished she had been more cautious. They had eventually broken off about a month ago after a heated argument in which he almost went physical on her.
Her mentions exploded as more people commented and retweeted. Soon the picture would be on every blog, it would be talked about for days, if not weeks. The wounds left behind by this scourge would fester forever. Nothing would remain the same again. By God, this would be the last time any man ridiculed her, she swore.
From the murkiest depths of her mind, a sinister thought spawned, inexplicably calming her as there was a sudden clarity of what she needed to do next. She wiped her eyes again, sniffing as she stared into the mirror hung on the wall. Her eyes were red but her face was menacingly placid.
She checked her watch it was 3:00pm.Good. In quick mechanical movements, she cleaned her face, reapplied her make-up, squirming her skirt into place and smoothing her hair. She left the restroom and strutted down the hallway of the bank where she worked, past her cubicle and towards the exit, avoiding glances from her colleagues who noticed a nuance in her disposition. Had they seen the picture? Soon it wouldn’t matter.
She made for her Toyota Matrix in the parking lot. Romeo, any moment from now, should be leaving his office at Ahmadu Bello Avenue. If she drove fast enough she could reach him before he left. The car hurtled dangerously along the stretch from Ojuelegba to Victoria Island. Blaring horns and the squawks from passers-by occasionally jarred her out of her reverie as she steered with half-attention
Parked at a distance from the entry of his work place, she waited patiently, like a lion waiting to pounce on its prey, her loathing of him growing stronger; strengthening her resolve.
A security guard, noticing a distraught lady seated in a car, approached.
“Madam any problem”

“No problem sir, I am waiting for someone” she said in the sweetest voice she could muster and he left. She waited

Then she spotted him exiting the front gate and he was alone in a benign twist of fate. Her grip on the steering wheel was deathly, cold fury seeped through her veins as her gaze was riveted on her unwitting victim. In a paroxysm of hatred, rage and hurt, she slammed hard on the gas pedal, revving the car into piercing screeches as it started murderously at him. She could see his petrified expression change to recognition and then horror as he frantically sought to evade the collision. It was too late.
A loud shrill from his lips was abruptly cut short as she ran him over, distinct cracking sounds could be heard, testimony of crushed bones. She halted a few meters from the body; peering back at him as he grappled for life .His mangled body, scantily cloaked by his now ripped shirt was suffused with dirt and crimson. He soon lay motionless.
Terrified cries of on-lookers with their hands clasped together on their heads rented the air. Some rushed to the scene; others stood in horror. Her mind was suddenly tranquil as she zoomed off at full speed,unbuckling her seatbelt as she veered,head on, towards the trunk of a tree by the roadside.
