Manchester United Edge Barcelona

English side, Manchester United continued their impressive tour record with a 3-1 victory over European champions, FC Barcelona. Goals from Wayne Rooney, Jesse Lingard and Adner Januzaj ensured United’s victory while Rafinha reduced the deficit with a decent volley.
David de Gea made his first appearance of the tour after overcoming a back injury, but there was no sign of Angel di Maria, who looks to be moving closer to a switch to Paris St Germain.
Rooney ended an eight-match goalless run by heading in Ashley Young’s first-half corner at the Levi’s Stadium, home of the San Francisco 49ers, in Santa Clara, California.
Shortly after making 11 substitutions, United doubled their lead in the International Champions Cup match thanks to Jesse Lingard’s shot from inside the box. Rafinha’s late volley gave Barca a glimmer of hope, but Adnan Januzaj hit back instantly to give Louis van Gaal his third win of the club’s pre-season tour of the United States.

Arsenal maul Lyon in preseason friendly

An Ozil-inspired Arsenal side hammered Lyon 6-0 in a preseason friendly match.
An impressive and highly entertaining display from the gunners saw them scoring four goals in the opening nine minutes of the game to the frustration of Lyon in the Emirates cup first match.
Giroud opened the scoring in the 29th minute, when he turned in an Ozil free-kick with his shoulder despite having his shirt pulled.

The Gunners doubled their lead soon after, this time Oxlade-Chamberlain collected a pass from Giroud after some smart work by Ramsey and drilled a low shot past Anthony Lopes in the Lyon goal. It got even better for Wenger’s side as Iwobi finished off another attack almost from the restart, the teenager striking home Ramsey’s pass with aplomb following yet another a free-flowing move.
Ramsey added the fourth from an Ozil cross. Ozil grabbed the fifth with a cool finish in the 62nd minute. And Cazorla’s low free-kick 13 minutes later settled the score on an impressive day for the Gunners.

Suspect narrates how he kidnaps kids from churches


 

A 26-year-old kidnap suspect, Gabriel Ogunsawe who is currently cooling his feet at the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department (SCIID) Panti, Yaba, Lagos has narrated how he and his partner kidnap children in churches. In a recent interview with Vanguard, the father of one revealed that he was jailed and released for the same offence last year but his friend lured him back. 

“I am from Ijebu-Ode in Ogun State.  I am a National Diploma, Accounting student of Lagos State Polytechnic. I was arrested because I was involved in the kidnap of a young child of about four years from Amazing Grace Church in Palm groove area. I was introduced into kidnapping business by a friend called Olayinka.

“I have known him for over six years.   It was Olayinka who came up with the kidnapping idea.   My role was to collect the ransom from the parents of the victim. This is not the first time we have engaged in kidnapping of little children.   In fact, I have engaged in three kidnappings.   The first one was successful while the last two were not.

“I was arrested after the second kidnapping while attempting to cash the ransom at the bank but my friend Olayinka, escaped. I was in Kirikiri for almost a year before I was released. When I returned from prison, I was jobless when Olayinka came and lured me into it again.

“Normally,  Olayinka goes into any church of his choice on Sunday morning, sits like a member inside the church and monitors the activities and movement of worshippers in the church.   When he is certain that he can lure a child out of the church premises unnoticed,  he quickly lures the child with biscuit or toys.  After successfully abducting the victims, he takes them to another big church located very far from the church where the children were kidnapped.

We never killed or sold any child. We only keep the child for a day and ensure we get whatsoever ransom we need to get from the victim’s parents. We ensure that we get the ransom first thing on Monday morning before the child will be seen. He abandons a large envelope addressed to the pastor in the church with a phone number. Once they contact us through the number,   we send  bank details to the parents of the victim.

“The first kidnap operation was in a Redeemed Christian Church in Shomolu area and it was successful.   We were paid N300,000 but Olayinka gave me N70,000 only, as he said we incurred some expenses, that was why he took the larger sum. Unfortunately,  the second operation was unsuccessful as I was arrested, arraigned in court and remanded in prison from June 2013 to January 10 2014.

Honestly,  I didn’t need anyone to tell me to stay away from crime after my release from the prison but I didn’t have a choice.   When I was released, I started squatting with my cousin, Akorede, in Akilo Street close to Lady-Lak area.  That was after I was ejected from the rented apartment where I lived because I was unable to pay the rent. My wife and son had to go live with her parents in Ota.

“This last operation, Olayinka initially, asked the victim’s parents to pay N700,000 but, they said they will pay N250,000.  They later sent N3,000 airtime to Olayinka.   He transferred N1,500 to my line the next day after I confronted him for collecting the ransom behind me. Because I was broke, I transferred N750 to my cousin Akorede, who I was squatting with.

We used an old registered line of mine for the transaction.   It was that line that he used to transfer the air time to my main line.  It was through the transferred airtime that Akorede was arrested,  unknown to me. It was through his sister, Jumoke,  that   I was eventually arrested while I was sharing handbill.  Akorede and his sister Jumoke,  are innocent and know nothing about the kidnap.

“I have a son who is about three years seven months old and I won’t want him to be kidnapped because I know the trauma we subject the families to when we kidnap their children. There was a time when I had to speak with the mother of the child we kidnapped.  I could feel her pain and broken heart from her voice.

My wife doesn’t know that I am into kidnapping business. My mum is late but my father is alive.  He doesn’t care.  I am married and I am a tiler. To my wife, I am very sorry to put you through all this shame and disappointment. My family members are all disappointed.   No one has come to see me since I was arrested. 

Right now, I feel so bad about my actions, but I was so desperate to get out my unpleasant situation,” he stated.

I am happy at Chelsea – Mikel Obi

John Mikel Obi has disclosed that he is happy at the Stamford Bridge and will see out his contract with the club despite heavy link with other clubs. The 28 year-old midfielder who has two years left on his contract have been tipped for a move from Chelsea over lack of playing time.
Mikel described the club as his family and also claimed that he has assurances from the manager to remain with the club.
“I have two years left on my contract here and want to see them out. I am happy here and we will see what happens. I do want to stay, the manager wants me to stay so I don’t have any issues,” Mikel told London Evening Standard.

“The manager has told me he wants me to stay. He said that and I’m pretty happy to stay.
“This is going to be my tenth season at the club, next year it will be my 11th. I have been here so long due to the contracts I have signed and I like to be somewhere where I have developed friendships. This is like my family now. Every time I come to work it’s like coming in to see my family. I know the whole place, the staff, it is going to be a hard place to leave when my contract runs out and then we will see what happens,” he concluded.

Mikel joined Chelsea from Lyn Oslo in 2006 and has won 10 major titles with the club.

Barcelona will fight Premier league for best players

Barcelona president, Josep Bartomeu has said his club will fight to keep their best players and also add new ones despite the English Premier League’s renewed financial strength. The Premier League’s new £5.1bn television deal will give English clubs huge financial power from the 2016-17
season but European champions Barcelona feel they can combat the threat.
“We are going to fight against the Premier League. We want to have the best players in our league,” Bartomeu told BBC Sport. “It’s true that the Premier League right now is the best league competition in the world, not only in a sporting way but in terms of income too.”

“The new Premier League television rights contract is something that the rest of the leagues have to follow. But no other club in the world has as big an income as Barcelona.” – Bartomeu said.

Keshi to drag NFF to court for "wrongful dismissal and defamation"

The last is yet to be heard of the Keshi Vs NFF imbroglio as the Ex-coach of the Super Eagles have reportedly filed a lawsuit against the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for “wrongful dismissal and defamation”.
Keshi was sacked by the NFF after findings revealed that he showed interest in assuming the vacant Ivory Coast coaching job by applying – a claim he and his agent have since debunked.
“Keshi’s lawyers have written the NFF threatening to sue for wrongful dismissal and defamation of character,” a source informed AfricanFootball.com

“But the truth of the matter is that he does not have a leg to stand on as far as this matter is concerned. “It’s all laughable and he’s just chasing shadows.”
He has since been replaced by Sunday Oliseh.

Draxler agrees personal terms with Juventus

Schalke midfielder, Julian Draxler have agreed terms with Serie A champions, Juventus according to a quote attributed to the German’s agent on goal.com. Goal.com reported that he had agreed a deal worth £2.6 million a year, quoting his agent Roger Wittmann as saying:
“Now we are at the stage where only Schalke and Juventus have to talk and, after that, we will see what happen”

Draxler, 21, is a summer target for Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri after the departure of playmaker Andrea Pirlo.

Aguero to miss start of the season

Manager of Manchester city, Manuel Pelligrinni has disclosed that Sergio Aguero and other South American players in the team will miss start of the season in order to get enough rest.
Pelligrinni stressed that it is crucial they get enough rest after having played so many games throughout the year.
“I think in football it’s so important to work hard, but also resting has the same importance,” Pellegrini told reporters.
“You have so many games throughout the year that if you don’t give them 30 days after they’ve finished their internationals, it’s very difficult for them to work hard. It’s more difficult for the South American players because Pablo Zabaleta, Martin Demichelis, Sergio Aguero and Fernandinho finished later, the first days of July, so they won’t have 30 days. I think when we return to Manchester they will start their preseason. Maybe they will not be involved in the first game, but I am sure they will work hard and will be involved as soon as they can.”

Martin Demichelis, Pablo Zabaleta, Aguero and Fernandinho have not been on City’s preseason tour to Australia, having been given time off after the Copa America.

Opinion: God won't listen to Nigerian songs | By: Etcetera

“Shoki hey hey Shoki!” cries a voice from the radio to the beat of a nerve-wracking pandemonium that seems designed to drive you insane.
A quick flick of the dial and “Shakiti bobo” is playing. The worse thing is that the raucous noise emitted by the artiste is no match for the loud, odious din coming from the beat. The lyrics are completely lost – which may not be regrettable to some – but the whole tumult sounds more like bad static than music. I tuned the dial again. This time it was Olamide screaming “VANESSA VANESSA.”
As the last strains of the song died away, the OAP cheerfully and enthusiastically breaks in, “Yes, that’s for all you listeners out there. That’s the way we do it right here at your cool station. We personalise our playlist to make you feel cool.”
Cool kor, cooler ni…. I felt like telling the OAP that his choice of songs made me feel SICK. 
This is simply today’s Nigerian music! Something is terribly WRONG with it! Yet millions around the country – especially the young people – listen to it by the hour. WHY?
What is there about this music that is so gripping? How can something so meaningless hold millions under its spell? Why does it serve as a common denominator – as “the tie that binds” – for so many youths?
Judging from how and what they’re saying and singing, it is easy to conclude that some of these artistes should be taken for mental evaluation! Music mirrors our emotions; it reflects our thoughts; it echoes our activities – it shows us the way we really ARE!
Most Nigerian artistes are confused and bewildered – or they wouldn’t sing songs about not being able to tell right from wrong, or songs which purposely don’t say or mean anything, or which try only to “embody an emotional state that points indirectly to marijuana and crazy sex positions.”
Music – just like other forms of art – is like a social barometer. A strong and healthy society produces dynamic and stimulating music; a diseased and decaying society produces sick and decadent music.
It’s a simple matter of cause and effect!
This is now a SICK SOCIETY and, therefore, it produces SICK MUSIC. It’s just that simple! Both parents and the young people are to blame. My point is, we all don’t have to be a part of this sick society – or its sick music.
Even talking about today’s gospel songs, many are lacking in purpose and quality. The gospel singers are forgetting that God believes in QUALITY. Look at the universe He created! He also believes in human improvement and GROWTH. “Become ye therefore perfect” (Matt. 5:48) and “Grow in grace and knowledge” (II Pet. 3:18), He commands.
God wants His people to grow in the right kind of culture – the right kind of appreciation for the finer things in life. He says that mature Christians are “those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to DISCERN both good and evil” (Heb. 5:14).
God wants us to EXERCISE our five physical senses. He wants us to learn what the true values for the enjoyment of the senses are. One of these senses is hearing. And one of the ways we need to exercise our hearing sense is in the appreciation of quality music. Quality in music involves, first of all, the way it is composed or arranged. Secondly, it involves how the music is performed. And thirdly, the setting (the place and occasion) in which the music is heard.
You attend a concert only to see artistes with a hodgepodge of idiotic noise played from a CD and the audience seated at round tables like they are in a canteen, screaming with mouthful of small chops and ‘samosas’ as every new song is introduced by the performer. What utter nonsense! What is WRONG with us? How did we completely lose our sense of value regarding music? Do we even know the purpose of music?
A mother justifies her daughter who’s listening to an obscene song by saying,  
“If you listen to the words of that one, it’s pretty rough. But it has a real good beat. My daughter says she doesn’t pay any attention to the words anyway.” Are we really that naïve? 
What erroneous reasoning! Go along with the crowd – even if the crowd is on the way to suffering, misery, pain, extinction? Do we think that these songs have no part in the tidal wave of promiscuity, venereal disease, illegitimate babies that are all over the country today? If you are one of those who like today’s Naija music, you ought to honestly and truthfully ask yourself WHY.
