Manchester United progress to champions league group stage

Manchester United advanced to the Champions League group stages as Wayne Rooney netted a hat trick to help beat Club Brugge 4-0 in Belgium to advance 7-1 on aggregate.

Rooney opened his 2015-16 account with a dinked shot over the advancing Sinan Bolat after Memphis Depay’s throughball put him in front of goal in the 20th minute. Needing a reaction, Brugge had their best chance of the opening half in the 44th minute, but forward Abdoulay Diaby’s attempt to round United keeper Sergio Romero saw him waste a golden  opportunity.
Rooney scored a second just four minutes after the break, tapping home an Ander Herrera pass after a well-worked move, and then completed his hat trick eight minutes later, slotting under Bolat after again finding himself one-on-one with the Brugge keeper.

United then rounded off the scoring in the 63rd minute after a defence-splitting pass left Herrera alone to easily slot past the keeper.

Similarly, Goals from Hakan Calhanoglu, Admir Mehmedi and Karim Bellarabi helped Bayer Leverkusen past Lazio 3-0 and advance 3-1 on aggregate.
Elsewhere, CSKA Moscow, who were 2-1 down from the first leg in Portugal, defeated Sporting 3-1 to advance 4-3 on aggregate in Russia.

BATE Borisov lost 2-1 to Partizan Belgrade in Serbia but, with the tie finishing 2-2, progressed on away goals, Igor Stasevich providing the crucial strike for the Belarusians before Maksim Zhavnerchik’s own-goal and substitute Ivan Saponjic’s stoppage-time effort.

Asier Illarramendi rejoins Real Sociedad from Real Madrid

Asier Illarramendi has left Real Madrid to complete his return to La Liga rivals and boyhood club Real Sociedad. Illarramendi, 25, signed for Los Blancos from Sociedad in 2013 but his future at the club under new coach Rafa Benitez has been the subject of conjecture.
The midfielder, who made 30 league appearances last season, has now sealed a transfer back to San Sebiastian after passing a medical and agreeing a six-year contract with the club. AS reports the fee is in the region of €17 million, plus add-ons, and Illarramendi will presented to the fans 19:00 local time.
Illarramendi said earlier on Wednesday: “Very happy. Of course, I wanted to return, I haven’t yet spoken to my teammates, later I will speak with them. Real [Sociedad] has always been my first option and I was really wanting to return home, of course.”

Roberto Martinez insists Stones won't leave Everton

Manager of Everton, Roberto Martinez has insisted that John Stones won’t be leaving the club despite handing in a transfer request and increased pressure from Chelsea Fc.mThe 21-year-old played in the 5-3 extra-time Capital One Cup win over League One Barnsley just 24 hours after telling the club he wants to leave in order to join Chelsea, who have failed with three bids for the England international.
Despite the prospect of the Stamford Bridge side returning again with an offer greater than their previous bid of £30 million, Martinez insists the centre-back will not be leaving and pledged to look after a young player he believes is under huge pressure.
Asked if he had rejected the transfer request, the Spaniard added: “Not yet because it was a match day and that was the priority. We will reject it in the morning (Thursday) and get on with our business. “John, for a young man under massive pressure, was terrific,’‘ said Martinez.

“I am repeating myself, but I don’t think it is right for the football authorities to allow the window to be open when there are important games.

“We shouldn’t put our players under that massive pressure. It becomes a bit of a circus. The situation with John is very clear. We care about him, we will protect him and make sure we give him everything we can to allow him to enjoy his football. “Clearly we have got to a point — in life and football — when sometimes money can’t buy everything and I think that is going to be a very strong statement at Everton.
“We have a chairman who will do the right thing for the club and for the team and as a true Evertonian we are clear he will not be easily influenced in taking the money and accepting things which will clearly make our team weaker. “This is not a moment of the campaign when we can use any money to get us stronger.”

This story of Cristiano Ronaldo and his friend will move you to tears.

I don’t know how long this story has been on the internet, i just read it on renowned American neurosurgeon, Ben Carson ‘s facebook page and i thought to share. It’s very inspiring and in actual fact, moved me to tears. Read below.
Moments after Real Madrid Football Club won their 10th UEFA Champions League trophy in 2014, the global audience and thousands of football fans at the Stadium of Light in Lisbon were taken by surprise when Cristiano Ronaldo abandoned the team’s celebration and ran to a section of the stand to pull out a man from the crowd and hug him affectionately.
The action was a public confession by Ronaldo to honour his childhood clubmate who ‘sacrificed himself’ and allowed the Portuguese star to become a global icon today.
Ronaldo said in an interview he granted some years ago that he and his friend were vying for a spot in an academy of Andorinha in Funchal, Madeira.

“I have to thank my old friend Albert Fantrau for my success. We played together for the same team in the U-18 championship. When a scout came to see us he said that “Whoever scores more goals will come into our academy.”
“We won that match 3-0. I scored the first goal then Albert scored the second with a great header. But the third goal was impressive for all of us.
Albert was one-on-one against the goalkeeper, he rounded the goalkeeper and I was running in front of him.
“All he had to do was to score that goal but he passed it to me and I scored the third goal, so I got that spot and went to the academy.
“After the match I went to him and asked him why? Albert said that “Because you (Ronaldo) are better than me.”
Journalists then went to Albert’s house and asked him if it was a true story. He said yes.
He also said that his career as a player after the match ended and now is unemployed.
“But how did you build this house so great, you have a car? You seem like a rich man. You also able keep your family. From where did this come from? ‘
Albert more proudly replied: “It is from Ronaldo!”
This explains why Ronaldo had to single him out of the crowd to share in his celebration.

Directed by Daniel Lee, the movie will be released in Nigeria next month through FilmOne Distribution who acquired the right to show it‎. A shout out by Jackie Chan to Nigerians will soon be unveiled and those who go to the cinemas to watch Dragon Blade will win fantastic prizes.
“We are pleased to be the Distributor of this thrilling movie from the veteran, Jackie Chan. Certainly, he is a household name in Nigeria and indeed Africa, having achieved great things in his career. Now at sixty, when people think he should be slowing down, the contrary is the case, as he has proven once more that that age has nothing to do with reaching your set goals. We are proud to be associated with this film and the Jackie Chan brand and we’re confident that it will do well at the box office.” Mr. Moses Babatope, COO of FilmOne, affirmed.

Godsday Orubebe calls Oshiomole an ingrate and sycophant. The Edo Governor fires back.

If you followed the trend of political events from January to this time, you would certainly agree that we’ve had a very interesting year. The war of words between Ex Niger Delta minister, Godsday Orubebe and Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomole was started by the former.
Orubebe prodded the hornets’ nest when he told newsmen in Abuja yesterday that the Edo Governor was an ingrate and popular villa sycophant following the Oshiomole’s recent criticisms of the Goodluck Jonathan administration.
“Oshiomhole is an ingrate and a popular villa sycophant who is quick to switch allegiance to whomever is in power. Human memory is short. It’s unfortunate that Oshiomhole who should talk like a governor is today, biting the fingers (Jonathan) that fed him and seems to have forgotten in a hurry that he once cried around the former president for assistance and recognition” he said.‎
Governor Adams Oshiomhole in his reaction described Orubebe a disgrace who is afraid of probe. A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Peter Okhiria reads below.
“Our attention has been drawn to the latest outburst of one clown called Godsday Orubebe in his attempt to taint the image of the Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
“It is no surprise that the former president, Goodluck Jonathan failed woefully because he surrounded himself with such charlatans as Godsday Orubebe, whose only credential is his ethnic origin and the large size of his bowler hat.
“Here was a man whose un-ministerial conduct at the election nearly plunged the nation into an avoidable crisis. Does Orubebe really think Nigerians are fools, does he truly believe Nigerians have forgotten so soon the ignoble role he played in his attempt to truncate the release of the election results and announcement of the eventual winner of that election, a move which could have plunged the nation into another civil war?
“Is it not a shame that Orubebe who should be cooling off his heel in jail for that failed plot to truncate democracy has now found a convoluted voice?
“We are not surprised at the timing of Orubebe’s latest outburst. It is no doubt unconnected with the planned probe by President Muhammadu Buhari of the billions of naira allocated to the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, even as the East-West road remains in bad shape and the probe of the fleecing of amnesty funds under his watch.
“We are aware that Orubebe, the perpetual noise maker has raised the decibel of his noise a notch higher so that he would have a ready-made defence of witch-hunting if he is indicted in the planned probe of Amnesty funds.
“Orubebe is a yesterday’s man. We could have chosen to ignore him like his Delta brother, Mr. Sunny Onuesoke, an unknown entity who doesn’t know the arithmetics of financing, but decided to delve into a matter of a World Bank loan, something completely beyond his mental and intellectual capacity, but we simply can’t let Orubebe have the last say.
“We are not unaware that it has now become the fad for drowning and neophyte politicians to take cheap shots at the impeccable character of the Comrade Governor just to gain cheap publicity. However, Orubebe’s image, as he himself knows, is beyond redemption.
“Is it not laughable that Orubebe, the clown, accused Oshiomhole of biting the fingers that fed him? Pray, how did Jonathan feed Oshiomhole? Did he feed Oshiomhole by supervising over a government that fleeced the nation of trillions of naira, thereby denying Edo State her rightful share of funds for development? Or did he feed Oshiomhole by canvassing votes for him!
“Our candid advice is for Orubebe, a perpetual failed Governorship aspirant, to go to his family and apologise for the irreparable damage done to the family name with his infamous outburst beamed live to the whole world, before coming forward to confront Governor Adams Oshiomhole who is not in any way in the same class as him.
“It is no wonder that Nigeria was at a state of near collapse until President Muhammdu Buhari came on a rescue mission and rendered people like Orubebe irrelevant.
“Never again will characters like Orubebe take us on the path of Golgotha; never again will they hold sway in the affairs of Nigeria and ruin the collective aspiration of the people.”‎
