Short Story: There's Hope | By: Sueddie Agema

She looked at him on the bed.
* * * * *
‘Thrown out of the house. Yea, just like that.
Another bottle of beer, please. Thanks.
I know you are a stranger: your bag is more than evidence. Listen still. She gave me just enough transport to go back to the village. To all that poverty, to a hopelessness. C’mon!! Please, waiter, bring another bottle for my friend here.
What? You shake your head. You don’t want a drink? Then, by all means, take some meal or whatever you want, please. There’s little or nothing to life than a celebration of now. Tomorrow is a parcelled box that might turn out a gift or bomb!! Hee hee hee!!
Well, don’t fidget like that. If you would take nothing, at least keep this little gift.
My phone is ringing. Excuse me, please. Oh, it is my sister.
Hello…Yes…You threw me out, why do you want to know?…Well, not as if you care but I am in the Sewuese Bush Bar…Yeah?…But seriously, can I come back and leave tomorrow? You know it’s late… Okay, don’t worry! I wouldn’t come back again or beg you for money!…Hmmm… Bye!
That was her.  Hmm. My friend, I would be fine. I would go home. I only find it sad that I wouldn’t be able to take anything to my fiancée and all those my little cousins. While I was away, they might have been content and kept hoping. You know, the little children used to call me Daddy. Daddy, when you come back, we would get books to write in school. We would get uniform and stop wearing this tear-tear.Hmm… Friend, there is hope. There is hope.
//
Thanks for listening to me, even silently. Sometimes, we need this. I would go to the village, there might be no farms in a land desecrated by oil spillage or no fish in waters flowing with chemical slime. Still, there is hope and I would cultivate that hope. Indeed, many times, a glorious surplus has germinated from hope’s harvest.
Wipe your eyes friend. They are red. Concern for me? Don’t worry. Don’t worry, I will be fine. Take care. Remember hope! Life’s essence is a continuous reliance on hope. It only ends at the final darkness.
Hey, why do you run so fast…?’
* * * * *
NEWS FLASH: There has been a bomb explosion at the Sewuese Bush market of the Gbatuma Cantonment. So far, casualties stand at three dead and seven injured. The bodies have been deposited at Mfe Hospital with the injured receiving treatment in the same hospital.

She shivered!

* * * * *
//
The bodies were charred beyond recognition. She recognised the medallion in what remained of the clenched fist. He had promised to never let it go. He kept his word. An intense feeling of guilt rushed from within streaming slowly out of her eyes. She looked on but saw nothing. She held the charred fingers wondering at the black figure that lay in front of her:
‘If only…’
Someone came and dragged her away. She struggled but after a while allowed herself to be taken away, the medallion in her hands. She thought to herself: So, I forsake him once more, even in death. Why? Why? Why?

* * * * *
She wondered who was calling:
Sniff Sniff ‘Yes? … Speaking … What is it?!! … Yes, I am there … You want me to come and take my brother’s dead body? … Hmm? … Yes, I am the woman in the red dress? What?…’
* * * * *
She looked at him on the bed.
//
She rushed and hugged him. He smarted at the pain of her bear hug. She understood and moved back to look at him. She was too stunned to say a word. He was in obvious pains. She smiled at her younger brother. It didn’t matter that he was a University drop-out any more or that he only wanted to become an artist or was it poet she said. That was something she strongly disagreed with. It didn’t matter that he was badly burned. She had never been happier to see him. Little mattered; her only sibling was alive. That was all that mattered.
‘I gave…the medallion…to…to…shortly before the…take off…and ex…ex…ex…’
‘Don’t worry, don’t talk.’
She walked to the bed and kissed him on the forehead:
‘Rest, brother. There is hope.’

Teen arrested for bringing a clock to school gets invitation from Obama

Photo published for We were right to arrest and handcuff boy over homemade clock, officials say
On Monday, a teenage boy, Ahmed Mohamed, a student of the MacArthur High School was handcuffed and arrested by school officials for bringing a clock believed to be a “hoax bomb” to school.
//
A follow up investigation however revealed that the device was a homemade experiment and he had no intention to create alarm. The issue has been trending for the past few days with many adopting the hashtag #IStandWithAhmed showing solidarity to the 14 year-old boy whose ingenuity was not praised.
Ahmed’s father, Mohamed Elhassan Mohamed who has lived in America for 30 years was unhappy about his son’s humiliation. In a press conference yesterday, he said he is proud of his son.
“He fixed my phone, my car, my computer. He is a very smart, brilliant kid. What is happening is touching the heart of everyone with children. And that is America. It made me really happy to see all these people support me. I’m thinking about transferring from MacArthur to any other school.”
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg as well as the President of the United States, Barack Obama have however extended an open initiation to the brilliant lad.
//
“Having the skill and ambition to build something cool should lead to applause, not arrest. The future belongs to people like Ahmed.”  Zuckerberg wrote
Obama added. “Cool clock, Ahmed. Want to bring it to the White House? We should inspire more kids like you to like science. It’s what America great.”

Child-Spacing: 'Expect my 4th child soon' – Mercy Johnson tells critics

//
Pregnant talented actress, Mercy Johnson has responded to child-spacing ‘sermons’ from fans, friends or foes alike. The doting mother of two was criticized for getting pregnant few months after dedicating her last child, Henry. In an interview with Goldmyne TV, the movie star said that she knows what child-spacing entails and  as an adult, she’s old enough to make decisions.
//
 “I am expecting my third child and I’m a married person so I don’t think people should ask me why. I understand the ethics of spacing kids but I’m a married person and an adult, I can decide the way I want to live my life. So yes, I’m having my third baby very soon. Thank you so much for the good wishes, thank you so much for the hate speeches, but save some of the hate speeches because the fourth will soon come to round it up then you can show your anger then but for now it’s good news let’s celebrate.”

You people sef, is it your pregnancy? trouble sleep, yanga dey wake am.

Opinion: Form is temporal… Jose Mourinho is permanent | By: Komptrolla

Sometimes, you can be a victim of your own high standards. In football, every sport as a matter of fact, form crisis is allowed, every big team at one time or the other has experienced it, how well they deal with the down time goes a long way in the recovery process; for Chelsea and everyone at the Stamford Bridge, it’s time to get behind the team and believe once again in the special one.

//

In all sincerity, it’s ok to experience moments of struggles, but for Jose Mourinho, it’s a strange feeling. This return of 4 points out of a possible 15 is the worst he has ever witnessed in his professional career.
With due respect, if this were to be the case at Tottenham or West ham, the headline would be different, but it’s Chelsea, it’s Jose Mourinho so you understand the panic button that the media is pushing as well as the anxiety among the fans.
Frankly speaking, the entire Chelsea squad is fatigued, a few are past their best and some are just waking up from sleep, if we were to come up with a list of the weakest performers of the EPL, it would be sane enough to load in all Chelsea players, the disaster at Goodison Park explains the obvious and with Arsenal lurking next weekend, it’s safe to admit that Chelsea must bring out something special to turn the situation on its head.

//

But before you rule out Chelsea, before you nail the special one, please remember it was this same team that strolled to the title last season, it was the same Mourinho that masterminded the weirdest UCL coup at Porto in 2004, it was the same Jose that oversaw the longest unbeaten home record in footballing history.

//

Form crisis has happened to the best of teams, it has befallen the best of managers, Jose needs support to restore the confidence that is lacking at the Bridge, the earlier the fans realize this the best.
Off field issues have reared ugly heads too, notably the Dr. Carneiro saga, disciplinary problems on the part of players and obvious confidence crisis on most of the star players are not helping the manager.

//

11 points off the pace is the worst start one can wish for, but September is too early to crown or relegate anyone. The royal blood at Stamford Bridge will speak for them, regardless of the result against Arsenal, form is temporal, but remember… Class is permanent and Jose Mourinho is still the Special One.

I suspect the writer is a Chelsea fan. Well, he might not be.

Jack Wilshere out for 3 months

//

Like we reported few weeks back that Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere will be out for few weeks after suffering a hairline fracture in his left leg. The latest update on the English footballer is that he would be out for 3 months to undergo a surgery on the leg.

Below is an official statement from the club.

//
//
“Due to a slow healing response from a fracture suffered in August, the club can confirm that Jack Wilshere is to undergo an operation to his left fibula.

“The decision to intervene has been taken quickly after regular reviews by specialists, who feel that Jack’s scans show that the healing process is not progressing as well as expected.

“Jack will have surgery in London in the forthcoming days. This will involve inserting a small plate in his left fibula. Jack is likely to be out for approximately three months. Everyone at the club wishes Jack well with his rehabilitation.”‎
