Nigeria’s Uzo Aduba Wins Emmy Award

34 year-old Nigerian Actress, Uzo Aduba has won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress. The Boston-born thespian was recognised  for her role as Susanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren in the American comedy-drama series, Orange is the New Black.

Aduba who kick-started her acting career 12 years ago thanked her family and cast and crew members of the show ‎whilst receiving her award.

Chocolate City rapper and brother to M.I Abaga, Jesse ‘Jagz’ Abaga has listed some of the qualities he wants in a woman and believe you me, they are unbelievably weird.

 “If I tell you my ideal woman you will not believe me. My ideal woman is someone who is deaf and dumb so that I cannot be talking too much or listening to too many conversations.”

“It will give me time to focus on my music. There is also something I learnt from Seun Kuti about marriage, he said that with development and everything, the major part of marriage is commitment and submission, appearance don’t necessarily matter. To all the women I have this for you, the more you are getting educated and exposed, you must always remember that a man is always a man and a woman is always a woman.”
“A cat cannot be a dog and a dog can never be a cat. Another quality I am looking out for in a woman is that, my woman should be confident and beautiful. FIFA Presidency:  Group wants Segun Odegbami to step down for Orji Kalu

A group called South West Football Fans (SWFF) has urged ex-international foot­baller, Chief Segun Odeg­bami to drop his FIFA Presidency ambition  in support of former gover­nor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Kalu who’s also vying for the same position.

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala secures two appointments in the US

Nigeria’s ex finance minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala,  has secured an appointment with US investment bank Lazard’s sovereign advice division. She has also been appointed chair-elect of the board of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, founded by Bill and Melinda Gates.
“The two appointments I’m going to undertake embody a continuation of what I’ve tried to do in my career. My work at Gavi will help me continue my work in strengthening institutions and building systems, to improve the health of children through immunization.” The renowned Nigerian economist said.

One of Africa’s finest musicians, Innocent ‘2face’ Idibia was treated to a grandoise birthday celebration yesterday September 20, 2015. Albeit the multiple award-winning singer turned 40 on September 18. The event which was attended by musicians, friends, families as well as stakeholders in the industry took place at the Eko Hotels and Suites. 2face and Annie were the cynosure of all eyes at the event, Annie dazzled in a custom embellished silver gown by designer by Jeremiah Obodo. Her makeup was done by Caroline Danjuma.

Artistes who thronged the venue of the shindig to honour the legendary act include D’banj, Don Jazzy, 2face even pleaded with these two friends to do one song together.

Yoruba People And Their Owambe

Hmmm, I don’t know why I always do this, that is look for trouble.
Why am I about to incur the wrath of my host and in laws, the Yoruba people? But Abeg what is life if we cannot look for trouble and laugh at ourselves while at it? So today I want to yab Yoruba people for their love of their Owambe party. These parties are usually organized to celebrate all sorts, weddings, burials, graduation house opening, release from jail and also rememberance amongst others. The planning usually takes months or even years depending on the prominence of the family organising it.

It is usually a wonder to behold. The Yoruba people do not joke with this party at all as months earlier fabric called’Aso Ebi’ is sold and are fiercely fought for by prospective attendees. It is usually very colorful and marks out different groupings. The families, the in laws, the celebrants, the creditors, the mistresses and also even those who just heard that is the, ‘mogbo mo ya’ people all deck out in these materials. At the party, the colour of head gear and cloth determines the kind of service you get. If you are lucky to wear the identified official colour then your table will be filled with the choicest of food and wine. But if you are unfortunate to wear a colour closer to the mogbo moyàpeople then you would most likely go home hungry. 
Food is served in abundance. The staples for these parties include rice, pounded yam, Amala, fresh fish etc. Then you would be given deserts and sorry I should have said earlier appetiser, which could be fruits, akanmu and puff puff.  To me the highlight is usually the dance. The musician on stage is given a list of prominent people and he on the spot starts singing their praises. This usually leads to the big boys spraying the musician while ogling the women and choosing the ones they will go home with. Many men have lost their wives during these dances. All the predator does is to target one of the big bottom, light skinned with dark blotches on their ankles with his crisp notes. As she wriggles her waist to the melodious songs on the bandstand, the randy wolf starts spraying her with money. He strategically places the money on her forehead, her chest, her waist while doing this whispering into her ear that they should meet later.
Yoruba people never forget their traditions. Even in the US, the money spraying during owambe is very important

With one eye on her husband, the target whispers her numbers to the man and the man takes down the number and completes the spraying and goes to sit down beside the husband. The women look forward to this so dance for different purposes. Some enjoy the praise singing, others use it as a platform to flaunt their goods in the hope that they will meet or find a husband, others do it for the money they would earn by wriggling their padded buttocks, while the rest just love the dance showing off their carefully chosen shoe and bag.
Finally as the party draws to an end, the last fight commences. This is fighting for the various parting gifts usually shared by the celebrant and family. The coolers, plastic buckets, notepads are the usual gifts distributed and the scramble for these gifts make the Yoruba people some of the most agile people ever. You should see the scramble and fight for these buckets which they have over ten in their homes .
The Owambe party have come to stay so let’s get used to it.

Wenger has to cope with his defeat – Mourinho

Jose Mourinho’s post-match interviews are predictable. When his team loses, he heaps praise on his men, blames series of people plus the unthinkable for the loss. When he wins, he heaps more praises on the team and throws tantrums on opponents and stuffs. Typical of the Portuguese.
The Special One today was impressed with his team’s performance after they won their  sixth game of the season against Arsenal at the Stamford Bridge.

‘It was a very good performance, a deserved victory, I’m happy with the performance and points. We improved a lot in the last two matches, in many aspects.  Defensively the team was much better. The attacking players defended much better than before, they created a compact zone and reacted very well to the moments when they lost the ball. That gives great stability for the players behind.



‘We were confident and comfortable with the ball. When you play against 10 men, many times teams play bad, but we played very well against 10 men, we gave them no chances and kept good balance behind the ball. The attacking players started moving much more. We deserved the victory.’

Prof. Yemi Osinbajo loses in law – Mama HID Awolowo

The matriarch of the Awolowo clan, Chief Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo (HID) has passed on.

She died today shortly after a meeting with her family members. She was aged 99. She was reportedly looking forward to her 100th birthday ceremony on November 25.

Until her death, Mama as she was fondly called was the chairman of the Nigerian Tribune. She was also a grandmother to Mrs Dolapo Osinbajo, wife of the Vice President of Nigeria, Prof Yemi Osinbajo.
