FIFA’s Blatter, Platini, And Valcke suspended for 90 Days. Issa Hayatou named acting president.

FIFA’s ethics committee announced today that it was provisionally suspending its president, Sepp Blatter, for 90 days as well as Secretary General Jerome Valcke and Vice President Michel Platini. FIFA Vice President Chung Mong-joon was also handed a 6- year ban. Cameroonian FIFA Vice President Issa Hayatou has been named the acting president.
The full statement on FIFA’s website, reads:

The adjudicatory chamber of the Ethics Committee chaired by Hans Joachim Eckert has provisionally banned FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter, UEFA President and FIFA Vice-President Michel Platini, and FIFA Secretary General Jérôme Valcke (who has already been put on leave by his employer FIFA) for a duration of 90 days. The duration of the bans may be extended for an additional period not exceeding 45 days. The former FIFA Vice-President Chung Mong-joon has been banned for six years and fined CHF 100,000. During this time, the above individuals are banned from all football activities on a national and international level. The bans come into force immediately.

The grounds for these decisions are the investigations that are being carried out by the investigatory chamber of the Ethics Committee. The chairman of the chamber is Dr Cornel Borbély. The investigation into Joseph S. Blatter is being carried out by Robert Torres, the investigation into Michel Platini by Vanessa Allard.
The proceedings against the South Korean football official Chung Mong-joon were opened in January 2015 based on findings in the report on the investigation into the bidding process for the 2018/2022 FIFA World Cups™. He has been found guilty of infringing article 13 (General rules of conduct), article 16 (Confidentiality), article 18 (Duty of disclosure, cooperation and reporting), article 41 (Obligation of the parties to collaborate) and article 42 (General obligation to collaborate) of the FIFA Code of Ethics.‎
The Ethics Committee is unable to comment on the details of the decisions until they become final, due to the provisions of article 36 (Confidentiality) of the FIFA Code of Ethics.

Another statement released  said Blatter had been relieved of his duties, and that the ban applied to “all football activities on a national and international level.”

Kanu Nwankwo launches TV game show

African football legend, Kanu Nwankwo has launched a new TV game show called “2 Can Play”. Contestants must be in pairs and questions will revolve around their partners. Winner walks home with 1 million naira and others will get consolation prizes.

The show will last for a period of three months and will have a one month break. Each quarter has a total of 16 episodes with 36 participants.

“You can come with your friend, sister, business partner, colleague, younger/elder siblings, fiancée, husband or wife . Just answer 10 questions to show your intimacy and how much you know the person in question.”  ‎The ex Nigeria international explained.

Enyeama's wife writes a touching note to him following his retirement

Promise Enyeama, the wife of ex Super Eagles goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama has penned a touching tribute to him following the latter’s retirement from international football today.

“Yes! You did well! Hold your head up high my love! I’m so proud of you and your dedicated service to your fatherland for 13 good years. I have witnessed your passion and commitment firsthand. You spent sleepless nights just to analyze every goal you conceded, even if there was nothing you could do to save them.

You played through injuries, pains and fatigue. You took the bullets of unjust criticisms, biased and false reporting/information, just to let peace reign.

You missed important family moments to honor national call-ups. Thank God for the opportunity/privilege to serve the nation. Thank God for the strength/skill to carry out your duties. Thank God for all the memories ( good and bad). You leave as a hero. You bow out as a legend. Our children, grandchildren and future generations will hear and speak of your great deeds. God bless you my husband. God bless Nigeria.” 

The mother of three wrote on instagram.

The 48 year-old  will sign his contract when he arrives Liverpool later today and will be unveiled tomorrow. The ex Borussia Dortmund boss takes over from Brendan Rogers who was sacked by the club on Sunday.

Messi and his father to stand trial on three counts of tax fraud

This sad development is coming few days after he was cleared of the charges charges. According to Daily Mail, a Spanish court today confirmed that Barcelona talisman, Lionel Messi and his father Jorges are to stand trial on 3 counts of tax fraud that might even come with jail terms. The Judge rejected declined the request of the public prosecutor to try only his father. He and his father allegedly created fake companies in Belize and Uruguay and also defrauded Spain’s tax office of €4m (now £3m) of unpaid taxes from 2007-2009.

Just when i thought somebody from somewhere will talk him into staying. Prolific shot-stopper, Vincent Enyeama is not mincing his words about quitting the Super Eagles team. Radio sports presenter, analyst and reporter, Oma Akatugba (pictured left in the second picture) who recently relocated to Belgium revealed on his instagram page that he, Mikel, Emenike and few other players tried persuading him to stay but the Lille goalie said he would not go back on his words.

The goalkeeper drove his Bentley car out of the Super Eagles camp in Belgium. Can imagine what is going on in the minds of other players, pain/sadness but life must go on. Oh! Oliseh. Let’s hope a miracle will happen soon.

Meanwhile, he had breakfast with his team members before leaving ;((

Why I made Ahmed Musa captain -Sunday Oliseh

Men’s national team coach, Sunday Oliseh has lifted the lid on why he stripped goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama of his captaincy role and handed it over to Ahmed Musa. Speaking on Brilla radio, Oliseh said:

”I want a captain who is disciplined. A leader who can motivate other players. A player who comes to camp early. I want a young player not a retiring player as captain. And Ahmed Musa is that player. He is my captain. When you have a new government like our honourable president just came in, he’s picked his ministers. And you have your philosophy and you have your way of working.”‎

He continued, “As a coach I have looked at the team and I have looked at Nigeria going forward. We need a captain who will think of staying with Nigeria for several years to come, who is regularly in the front. And Ahmed Musa did a great job for us in Tanzania under very difficult circumstance. He is a very responsible player and he is the captain of the team. So he is the captain of the team, there is no question of a tussle.

“The fact that I would like to have somebody (as captain) who is thinking of playing now and not somebody who is preparing for retirement or thinking of life after-football. And I think it’s time we had peace and quiet around the Super Eagles. ‎Super Eagles’ most capped footballer, Vincent Enyeama has announced his retirement from international football. It is not unlikely that his row with the national team coach, Sunday Oliseh prompted his decision. The 32 year-old has been a mainstay for Nigeria since making his international debut in 2002 and captained the country to 2013 Africa Cup of Nations glory

Enyeama Vs Oliseh | The long-serving professional and the novice manager | By: Jide Alaka

At 101 caps for the Super Eagles and over 250 club appearances, Vincent Enyeama cannot be labelled a novice in any form or manner but Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, can be described as a novice manager, even though that description does not evaluate whether his actions are wrong or right.
The gently brewing rain that started last month escalated into a full-scale storm on Tuesday in Belgium as both Oliseh and Enyeama finally went frontal with their aggro and the Nigeria Football Federation president, Amaju Pinnick, had to step in before the whole episode descended into total chaos.

The issue of the captaincy

Enyeama took over the captaincy of the team after Joseph Yobo retired but he has been unable to feature for the Super Eagles since Oliseh took over the reins of the team. So in his absence for the qualifier against Tanzania last month, Ahmed Musa was named as the captain, in a temporary capacity, it was interpreted at that time.

At the team’s gathering in Belgium for friendly matches this week, Enyeama came late to camp – because of the burial of his mother, a death which prevented him from answering Oliseh’s first call-up. Apparently miffed at this insubordination, Oliseh was said to have named Musa as the substantive captain of the team – an issue Enyeama took offence with and asked the coach for an explanation on why he was being stripped of the captaincy. “I was surprised,” Enyeama told ESPN FC.

Enyeama continued: “I insisted on speaking because I felt that with the years of dedicated service I have given to the country I deserve at least the respect of giving my own side.

“But he [Oliseh] told me that either the whole team would leave the room for me, or I would have to leave the room for the whole team.”


The issue of decorum
While it has to be acknowledged that respect begets respect, it is more appropriate for the manager to show that respect beforehand. Because of the extenuating circumstances, Oliseh would have been best advised to keep his captain’s nomination to a time when he would have had a conversation with Enyeama, preferably away from prying ears and eyes.

But after the deed had been done, it would have been better for the Super Eagles coach to have informed the former captain that the captaincy would be taken away from him – unless it was on the spur of the moment decision. Even a retort such as “Skippo, let us take a walk” would have ameliorated the toxic situation.
From reports, which can be wrong, it was revealed that Enyeama interrupted the coach’s briefing. This was very wrong for Enyeama – he wouldn’t do that in Europe and Oliseh has the prerogative to choose a new captain for his team and this happens whenever there is a general makeover of a team and the need for the new manager to create a new line of structure.
But the situation should not have been allowed to exacerbate to the point where Oliseh called for security to throw the goalkeeper out of the camp.
The issue of leadership
What does this issue do for Oliseh’s leadership stand with the other players? He could be seen as being petty, and someone who does not listen to others or someone who believes he has all the answers. A leader, Dwight D. Eisenhower said, “get someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do it.” Yes, Oliseh could have all the answers but he must wisely show the path to his players so that they can all come to the same conclusions.
That is what is meant by all pulling in the same direction. The role the NFF has played is the good role of trying to reconcile the warring parties, even though the Super Eagles may invariably have lost the services of Enyeama, who wrote on Twitter that he had been thoroughly insulted and embarrassed by what transpired.
For Oliseh, he should take a cue from the experiences of coaches like Pep Guardiola, who ousted Samuel Eto’o, Ronaldinho and Zlatan Ibrahimovich from Barcelona. He would have paid the price of being sacked if results had gone against him but he ultimately succeeded because of his results. As one man said, the life of a football manager is thus, with a job, about to be sacked or sacked. Most of the time, the manager will carry the can for bad results but the players will stay.
