Cristiano Ronaldo receives fourth golden boot award.

Real Madrid star, Cristiano Ronaldo has become the only player in history to receive the European golden boot award four times. The 30 year-old received the gong today after becoming the highest  scorer in Europe’s domestic leagues last season.
Real Madrid President Florentino Perez lauded the Portuguese footballer for the achievement.

“This award goes back to show that we have a unique and exceptional player in Cristiano Ronaldo. He is the only player in history to win the Golden Shoe four times. A few days ago he became Real Madrid’s [joint] all-time leading goalscorer and now Cristiano is picking up his fourth Golden Shoe.

“It is an honour to have him at our club. Cristiano Ronaldo came to Real Madrid to win all that he has won and now he wants more. There is something special about him. Despite winning so many trophies, he always wants more and never gets complacent. Thank you Cristiano Ronaldo, on behalf of all Madridistas, for all you have given us and for all you will give us.”

Ronaldo is driven by Messi rivalry.- Zidane

Real Madrid legend, Zinedine Zidane has claimed that Lionel Messi rivalry motivates Cristiano Ronaldo . The ex French international added that the current world best player is  driven by the desire to get more goals than his nemesis.

‘Fifty to 55 goals per season is just not human. But you should see him at training. At training, he’s a guy who every ball, every match, every corner… he wants to score, he wants to win. And when he scores he does the same thing he does in a match. He’s happy and he falls to his knees to celebrate… it’s incredible.

The ex Juventus player continued, ‘There’s a feature in all of that and it’s that there’s another player opposite who pushes him. That’s to say the rivalry he has with Messi. He doesn’t need that to perform. But what keeps him scoring 55 to 60 goals a season is the fact that he says to himself: This year I have to score one more than the other guy every time.’

2Face Idibia’s Biography Set For Public Presentation

The ‘i’s have been dotted, the ‘t’s crossed, the biography of African music legend, 2face Idibia titled, ‘A Very Good Bad Guy: The Story of Innocent ‘2face’ is finally set for public presentation. The event has been scheduled to hold on Tuesday October 20, 2015 at the Terra Kulture, Victoria Island in Lagos.
The 460-paged book will contain a wide range of materials on Idibia’s life and times, including accounts from his mother, his wife, siblings, colleagues and mentors. It will also contain selected lyrics and discography, as well as editorial materials dating as far back as 2005.
The biography, done in commemoration of the singer’s 40th birthday, is a first-of-its-kind for any pop star in Idibia’s category, and the first by any contemporary Nigerian media platform. Fully funded and edited by NET News, owners of Newsroom, THENETNG, Orin, NECLive and Star, the biography is part of the NET Book Series, a dedicated project to document an important era in Nigeria’s creative industry.

‘It’s the first of many’, NET publisher and Idibia’s former publicist Ayeni Adekunle says.

Already confirmed for Idibia’s book launch are the duo of Tee A and Ali Baba who will serve as event host and book reviewer respectively.
The event will also feature a live conversation between book editor Ayeni Adekunle and 2face Idibia.
In an emotional tribute to be featured in the book, Idibia’s wife Annie writes ‘Innocent is an extraordinary being. I remember when we were so young. He was 24, I was 15. And I still see the same man when I look at him…’

Journalist Olumide Iyanda who pens the foreword says of the singer: ‘…he never rose to a level he could not sustain. Many have come and gone since year 2000. But 2face is still setting an agenda for what and entertainer should look and sound like.  He is proof that patience and true love pays.’

The man who gave him his first gig, Edi Lawani describes 2face as a ‘multi-dimensional man whose life defies definite analysis.  He is an immensely blessed person, almost unfairly gifted…’

And confirming the character trait many already attest to, his manager Efe Omorogbe says ‘he’s never said something to me that I found to be untrue.  People often suggest that he is gullible and easy to manipulate. But they have no clue. It’s hard to get him to do what he isn’t sold on- make no mistake; the frail-looking, happy-go-lucky, ‘unserious’ guy can be tough as nails when he chooses to be…’
Idibia himself, in a rare interview published in the book says  ‘I come from a poor background. Poor in the sense of money, not in spirit…’
The 2face Idibia biography is the second instalment in NET’s Book Series, following the publication of Chris Ihidero’s ‘Wanderings of a Rapidly Degenerating Mind’ earlier this year. The book project is projected to replace the company’s weekly print newspaper which has in recent times been epileptic and is already scheduled to go off the stands later this month.

Meet the first Nigerian to own a top European football club.

Kunle Soname, CEO of one of the top sports betting companies in Nigeria, Bet9ja has become the first Nigerian to own a top European football club. Soname, who is also the President of Nigeria National League (NNL) team, Remo Stars Football Club, acquired  Portuguese second division side, Clube Desportivo Feirense over the weekend.

A statement on the club’s website reads, “Last Friday we effected a transformation of our club through the sale of part of the capital to our new partners, Tavisstock Global Resource Ltd, led by Mr. Kunle Soname. We wish all the stakeholders the best and believe it will be a lasting partnership that would bring great sporting success to Clube Desportivo Feirense.”

"Gareth Bale and Ronaldo are complete opposites."

Gareth Bale’s agent, Jonathan Barnett has claimed that his client and Cristiano Ronaldo do not have any problem with each other despite wide speculation that they hate each other.‎ Barnett admitted that albeit the pair are complete opposites, they don’t harbour any resentment towards each other.

‎He told the Guardian. “They don’t go out eating every night together, but it’s fine. There’s no hatred there. Gareth is a quiet guy. They’re complete opposites.‎ But I think Gareth can learn a little bit from Ronaldo as well, interacting maybe a little bit. He has some very good endorsements but his whole life is to be the best footballer in the world.

“I don’t think he wants to be the best model in the world or the best underwear seller. That’s not him.”

He added: “I think that the new guard is coming and there’s some resentment, perhaps, to that. But I think things will change. I’ve always said it, I think he’ll be the best player in the world in the next couple of years.”

Why do I see the ‘best model and underwear seller’ part as a subtle sub (insult)?

Messi has been the best in the last 10 years – Pele claims

‎This Messi- Ronaldo debate is not ending anytime soon. Brazil legend, Pele has opined that Barcelona playmaker has been the greatest player of this generation in the last 10 years. The prolific ex striker in an interview with NDTV Sports said Ronaldo plays forward and tries to score, while Messi can do everything he wants.
“It is very ‎difficult to make a comparison ‎of players of different ‎generations. But in last 10 ‎years Messi was ‎the best. Ronaldo ‎plays forward and tries to score, while Messi ‎plays with‎ a ‎different style. In my team I would love to have both… We have ‎Neymar who also has good future.” The football icon explained‎

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is now an award-winning singer.

From an all-time top goalscorer to an award-winning singer, PSG striker, Zlatan Ibrahimovic makes everything look easy.  The Swedish player recently released his own version of the Swedish national anthem and guess what, it was streamed a whooping 3 million times in his native country ( the most streamed national anthem in recorded history, he claims)
The ex Barcelona player has showed off a gold record award presented to him after the rendition of his version of Du Gamla, Du Fria – translated as Thou Ancient, Thou Free – for an advert in 2014.

NFF to organise testimonial for Enyeama, bans use of social media in camp.

The Nigeria Football Federation has revealed that a testimonial will be organised for Vincent Enyeama, adding that he deserves an honourable exit  from the Super Eagles.
“I told him that he did so well for Nigeria over the past 13-and-half years that he had been there, and by all means, is deserving of honourable exit. Whatever the situation, whether he decides to return to the team or not, NFF will organise a worthy testimonial match in his honour, because he served the nation so well.” NFF boss, Amaju affirmed.

On the row with Enyeama and Oliseh, Amaju maintained that “the head coach is in full charge of the team and the camp at all times, and that fact must be respected. The NFF will support and respect the decision of the head coach of any of the national teams at all times.

“Both Oliseh and Enyeama are true heroes of Nigeria football, if you look at what they achieved at different times. But Oliseh is head coach now and in charge of the team. We will continue to respect his contract; our role as a federation is advisory.”

He however disclosed that a code of conduct for players and officials of the various national teams will soon be implemented.
“A small group had been working on the document and I am happy to say that it is now ready for implementation. This will spell out how players and officials must conduct themselves while in any of the national camps, and minimise the probability of misunderstanding between coaches and players.”

‎ ‎ He continued, “No player launches his career through the social media. When players are at their clubs, they don’t broadcast camp situation on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram. The same restraint and discipline must be observed in the national camp.”
