50,000 Nigerian Girls Die Of Abortion Complications Annually – NMA

The Nigeria Medical Association Committee on Girl Child Education has revealed that more than
50, 000 Nigerian girl-children die annually of complications arising from poorly done abortions.
National President of the Committee, Chidi Esike while speaking during an awareness campaign organized by the Committee at Model Girls’ Secondary School, Ugwuachara, Ebonyi State, said most of these young girls lack sex education and are thus influenced by their peers to engage in sexual activities.
He however implored the female students to focus on their studies and avoid distractions that often lead them to have sex before they are mature.
“The theme of this particular project is Adolescence and the Education of the Girl Child-Negotiating the Mine Field. We decided to interact with the students to create awareness of the major challenges facing them in their education through lectures and help them find best solutions that will make their education most effective,” Dr. Esike said.

"I left Madrid through the back door"- Di Maria

Former Real Madrid player, Angel Di Maria has claimed that the Spanish club sold him to Manchester United last year to cover the signings of Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez, who cost £20m and £63m respectively. Recall that the Argentine moved to Old Trafford for a record fee of £59.7m in August 2014.
He told Guardian in a recent interview that contrary to reports that he was lured with a bigger pay package to England, the 27 year-old who later joined PSG for £44.3m said he didn’t leave for the money.

“They wanted to cover the costs of the great players they had signed that summer. I didn’t leave for money. I wanted to see if I could renew and they didn’t want me to. They wanted to cover the costs of the great players they had signed that summer. I had to leave by the back door. It wasn’t how I would have wanted.” He revealed.

After 22yrs In US Prison, Obama Grants Yakubu Gowon's Son, Musa Clemency

On November 18, 1992, agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration and the United States Customs Service arrested Musa, Jack Spencer, for conspiring to import in excess of one kilogram of heroin.  

Jack Musa Gowon who was 23 years old at that time was sentenced to 40 years imprisonment  for the allegation of smuggling  heroin from source countries,1 such as Thailand or Burma, via non-source countries, such as Switzerland or Austria. Jack Musa Gowon protested vehemently through his legal team  that he was innocent and was framed up and his protest were ignored by the Jury  and rather  was harshly  sentenced to 324 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release.  
Musa timely appealed, challenging the admission into evidence of the Hotel Guide, the sufficiency of the evidence supporting his conviction, and the district court’s upward adjustment of his base offense level on the basis that he was an organizer or leader in the conspiracy. When the appeal to quash his conviction failed, Musa took that decision  in his stride believing set back like this is not end of his life.

As an inmate of Taft Correctional Facility, Musa Jack Gowon was a role model and a legal adviser to all the inmates. He was well behaved and a source of inspiration to co- inmates  who have given up on life The prison warden loved and worshiped the ground he tread on.
Permit me to mention that Musa  enrolled in one of the universities around and successfully graduated with a degree in Law as a prison inmate. This commendable act of Leadership did not go unnoticed and he was rewarded severally by prison authorities. While all these were going on, Musa’s  family has never stopped fighting to get him out of prison and calls for his release began to grow louder.
Happy to report that President Obama heard the calls for Musa’s release and acted in that regard by granting him a parole. Musa walked out of Taft Correctional Facility Bakersfield California as a free man on November 2nd  and he is currently at  ICE Detention Center Bakersfield CA where he will be deported back to Nigeria any moment from now.
Musa Jack Ngonaadi is grateful to his Dad, General Yakubu Gowon, his friends and his relatives from his maternal side who  stood by him and supported him also all through the period of his unjust  incarceration that he did not commit the crime he was wrongly accused of

Musa will narrate his own side of the story very soon and he is grateful to God who kept him alive and well to see this day.

Club owner banned for locking referee in the stadium.

Some stories you hear in this life! Turkish club, Trabzonspor president, Ibrahim Ethem Haciosmanoglu and some members of his board have been banned for locking a referee in his dressing room.
They punished the match official, Cagatay Sahan and his assistant because of his decision not to award their team a penalty late in last Wednesday’s 2-2 draw with Gaziantepspor. They weren’t released until Turkey’s president Recep Tayyip Erdogan intervened.
“I told stadium security not to let the referees leave until the morning, until I arrived, but a very important person called me and asked me not to cause embarrassment in Turkey and around the world. “ He later claimed on his club’s website that the decision was borne out of the need to protect the official from being mobbed.
“Our goal was to protect the referees from the crowd in Trabzon. We also arranged for the referees to leave the city without any problems.”
While Haciosmanoglu was handed 280 days ban and fined 150,000 Turkish lira (£34,250) by The Turkish Football Federation Uzunay others were fined amounts between £45,000 and £60,000. The club will also play two matches behind closed doors.

Last week as I stayed glued to CNN because of the forth coming American election, I saw a mini documentary on Weddings, The Naija style. I must say that from time, we do know how to put on a show, especially my brothers from the west.

We as Africans are generally boisterous people. We love events and for us, everything is a large party and the larger the party, the more successful an occasion is interpreted to be. Naming ceremonies, weddings, even funerals have become one big jamboree and my personal opinion is that we are losing the significance of this occasions which are meant to be solemn by the noisy chaos we have around it. I’m particularly going to focus on wedding tins.
Several months ago, my last son came to me to talk about his impending marriage and of course the wedding planning came up. He was expecting to have a high society wedding at my expense (Hmmm see jobbing) but I told the young lad that it is whatever he can save for his wedding that will be the budget for it.

Nobody paid for mine so he has to be disciplined enough to raise the money he needs for his. Of course as an entertainer and a showbiz personality it is easy to surmise that I will like large occasions shown by my late father’s burial which was a carnival of sort, but I still think that most of what we spend is unnecessary. Let me begin by saying that in modern days, the ceremony of weddings has become more important than the marriage act itself. Which is why we find the fragile institution of marriage collapsing.
I’ll have to say to some certain degree that elaborate functions are not always a bad idea especially when the person hosting it is spending money as a result of their hard work and not stolen or borrowed money.
It is normal for people to show off and have elaborate and flamboyant ceremonies, that’s one of the factors that differentiate us from animals. I also believe that simple is beautiful, but some occasions call for an elaborate celebration especially when it’s a once in a life time event. What better way to make the moment memorable than to make it elegant. However, what I find most worrisome is that some people go as far as borrowing money from the banks, other financial institutions, friends and family members just to celebrate weddings, burials, birthday parties, and the most upsetting part, is that after the show is over, then you still see them long after, struggling to meet up with the basic daily requirements of living? Why can’t they have a business plan in which they can invest that money and get returns or something more profitable.
One of my favorite sayings is, “cut your coat according to your size not your neighbor’s size” abegi. Why must one go a borrowing just to impress people when the aftermath of the ceremony leaves you in debt especially at the point where you have to start to think of someone else in regards to raising a family.
My advice to young people is that it’s not how expensive your occasion is that guarantees a stable married life. Instead of spending such a huge amount, to have an elaborate wedding and when the debts pile up, the quarrels will begin, the advice I give young couples is that they should have a long financial discussion before marriage, issues like who pays what bills and when should be addressed. One of the major conflicts people have in marriages is always financially related so it is very important to have this talk about the kind of financial future they want to have and strategize on how they intend to achieve it. Airports have a way of setting your mind up for what to expect when you get to a new place. The popular expression is first impression. From that moment on, you subconsciously decide your disposition towards every experience you have in that place. Sometimes when you marry that primary engagement with what you were told before embarking on your journey, you just want to get what you have come to do over and done with in good time and get yourself back to your comfort zone. It is not all about pleasure; the aura around the arrival terminal of an airport forms the core of how people who have come to that destination to do business create their disposition to life in the new destination. An unpleasant experience could leave a lasting memory with unfathomable ripple effect.
If you have ever arrived into Murtala Mohammed International airport, Lagos, Nigeria especially at night time or you have been there at this time to meet an arriving friend or associate you know exactly what I am talking about. While I have no gloom to share or spare, I would not paint a dire picture of the experience for those who have not for the singular sake of patriotism. I would just start and end by saying it is very disorderly and rowdy.
I have wondered for some time now how this experience can be improved and I have an idea I wish to share. I would appreciate your sincere comments and ideas about this problem. I am saying as clear as possible that this is not a panacea.
Instead of having all the cars come to the front off the arrivals exit to pick up their family and friends, the front of the arrivals terminal can be made to be a bust terminal where all arriving passengers would come to board well regulated and customer focused airport operated buses that would convene passengers to the car parks where the real magic would occur. (Provided there is enough space at the car park or more space can be created as the car park which is at the moment referred to as a temporary one may be too small to fit all the traffic. The car parks can be in more than one location with buses leaving the arrival terminal adequately signifying destination car park and other details)
The car parks need to be remodelled
The car pack needs to be divided into sections denoted by alphabetic nomenclature and each parking lot needs to be marked by alphanumeric nomenclatures. This may be a bit expensive but it is sure better than the disorder that we currently have. 
The buses that will convene arriving passengers from the exit of the arrival terminals would then be marked by the Alphabetic naming that the car parks would have and there would be bus stands at the arrivals area for each alphabet.
Family, friends and associates of the arriving passengers would then inform them of their parked location, for instance if I have come to pick my friend and I have parked at parking lot 26 in the Parking Area C. I will just tell him I have parked at C26 and he will join bus C from the arrival area. Bus C would then drop all passengers who have boarded targeting the C area at a bus stand in the C area and my friend in this case would easily find lot 26, then we would drive out at our own pace and keep moving all the way without any reason to stop.
This would reduce the security and safety stress arriving passengers face arriving into Nigeria, greatly improving passenger experience. It would also take away traffic stress that has inundated the airport area at peak periods.

Enyeama, Ahmed Musa missing on GLO-CAF Awards shortlist

Unlike last year that Lille goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama’s name appeared on the 10-man list, his and that of Ahmed Musa are missing on this year’s GLO-CAF awards shortlist. Recall that their names appeared on the initial 35-man list before it was whittled down.

Nigeria’s hopes of seeing Enyeama or Ahmed Musa clinch the prize this year have been dashed again. The last Nigerian recipient of the award was Nwankwo Kanu in 1999.

The winner will be decided by votes of the coaches or technical directors of the national associations affiliated to CAF. An awards gala will be held on Thursday, 7 January 2016 in Abuja, Nigeria.

Mourinho needs to stop embarrassing himself- Jamie Carragher.

Liverpool
legend, Jamie Carragher has advised Chelsea boss, Jose Mourinho to focus more
on improving their performances rather than pointing accusing fingers at
referees. He also suggested that the players should take more responsibility for the team’s woes. 
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, the football pundit said “He has to change some things and these
interviews have got to stop, because they’re embarrassing him and they’re
embarrassing the club. Maybe he’s trying to create a siege mentality but I
don’t think the players would be totally agreeing with the manager, blaming
referees. Chelsea were very poor at the weekend. This paranoia has got to stop
that ‘the world is against them’, because they’re not.”
He
continued, “I’m a massive fan of Jose Mourinho and I’d like him to stay
because there’s been too many changes in the past at Chelsea. These players’
performances have been shocking. It’s about time we took more of a look at
them. The manager is always in the spotlight.”
