22-Year Old Crowned Miss Nigeria 2015

Pamela Peter-Vigboro, a computer science graduate of University of Port Harcourt, has been crowned Miss Nigeria 2015. The 22 year-old who represented Cross River state fought off competition from other 35 candidates.

Her victory came with a grand prize of N3 million cash, a brand new Kia Rio car, six months skill acquisition programme in any institution of choice, a year serviced apartment, and an all-expense paid trip abroad.

Top four finalists were Miss Oyo, Miss Adamawa, Miss Anambra, Miss Osun and the winner Miss Cross River. The judges consisted of Mai Atafo, Lanre Da Silva, Audu Maikori, Helen Prest Ajayi, Ruth Isume, Isoken Ogimwoniyi, Chima Ude and Jumoke Adenowo.

Nigeria's Golden Eaglets win FIFA U-17 World Cup again

Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets defended their U-17 World Cup title for the first time with a 2-0 victory over Mali. The first half of the match ended a goalless draw. Ebere got the best chance for Nigeria from the spot but his penalty was saved.
Victor Osimhen however gave Nigeria an early lead in the 56th minute, scoring his 10th goal and the highest in the tournament. Bamgboye later capitalized on an error from the Mali goalkeeper to wrap up proceedings.
Nigeria has just joined Brazil as the only countries to successfully defend the U17 World Cup. Victor Osimhen and Kelechi Nwakali emerged Golden boot and Golden ball winners respectively.
The elated Golden Eaglets coach, Emmanuel Amuneke described the victory as a dream come true.
“It was a beautiful and entertaining match. I think the people in the stadium enjoyed it today. We knew that Mali are technically very strong, have great individual players and are very fast. We wanted to make no mistakes but we lost the ball many times in the midfield in the first half. But I don’t want to complain because they are all kids. We changed some things in the second half and made some substitutes. That brought us more safety in our game. 

“We are thankful for everything. We wanted to bring the players to their dreams and we did it. Thanks for the support. We feel like we are at home. We have worked very hard for this success and we hope to continue. The players will go home now but their journey is not over yet. Personally, I’m really happy. I have football in my blood, as a player and as a coach. This is what I want to pass to my players.” The ex- Nigeria international was quoted on FIFA.com

Nigeria’s U-20 women’s team, The Falconets have secured the 2016 FIFA U-20 World Cup ticket! They defeated South Africa 3-1 on Aggregate to qualify for the Women’s World Cup. Nigeria has never failed to qualify for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup since its launch in Canada in 2012.

Why we sacked our Nigerian crew -Virgin Atlantic Airways

Kudirat Scott-Igbene, the marketing and communications manager of British Airline, Virgin Atlantic Airways has issued a statement on the reason the company has decided to discontinue operations in Nigeria. A top source of the company had hinted reporters several hours back that they pulled out of the Nigerian market because it is no longer sustainable for the airline to continue to operate in the country.
“Virgin Atlantic Airways has laid off all its Nigerian cabin crew. They were only given three- week notice and no severance package regardless of their length of service will be paid. “The air-hostesses they sacked were about 20 and last year, they closed down their Nigerian call centre and let go of all the Nigerian staff.” The source hinted.
Kudirat explained further that “We have decided that we will no longer have crew based in Lagos. This is by no means a reflection on our Lagos based cabin crew, the primary purpose of our locally based cabin crew has been to provide cultural expertise and customer feedback has shown us that this is no longer a requirement on the Lagos route.
“The additional complexity required to operate an international crew base where there are no foreign language requirement means it is no longer sustainable going forward.”
“This announcement has no impact on our flying programme and we plan to continue flights between Lagos and London.
“After 14 years of flying the route, we remain committed to servicing the Nigerian people, whether it be for business, family or education.”

Designer jackets and suits, who knew the Frenchman was this dapper? Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger recently had a photo shoot and lengthy interview with L’Equipe’s Sport and Style magazine.

One interesting claim he made during the new interview was that he brings out the ‘beauty in man’.

‘In the religious world, it is said that God created man. I am only a guide. I allow others to express what they have in them. I have not created anything. I am a facilitator of what is beautiful in man. 

He continued, ‘I define myself as an optimist. My constant battle in this job is to bring out the beauty in man. You could call me naive. At the same time, it allows me to believe in that and, more often, proves me right.’

Former Chelsea manager, Bobby Campbell passes on

 FC have announced the death of it’s former manager, Bobby Campbell. He was aged 78.

‘All at the club send our deepest condolences to Bobby’s family and friends and our players will wear black armbands in his memory at today’s game at Stoke. Chelsea was very close to Bobby Campbell’s heart and he will always be close to ours.’ The club wrote.

Campbell’s coaching spells include QPR, Fullham, Portsmouth, Aldershot to mention a few.

Nigeria's Kelechi Iheanacho and Moses Simon nominated for the 2015 Golden Boy Award.

Super Eagles players, Kelechi Iheanacho and Moses Simon have made it to the 40-man shortlist for the 2015 Golden Boy award. The prize which was won by Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling last year was established by Italian newspaper, Tuttosport.

Candidates are usually under 21 years and must be playing in the top tier of a European league.

Jubilation as WHO declares Sierra Leone ebola-free

There were scenes of jubilation on the streets of Sierra Leone this morning, as the World Health Organization (WHO) delcared the country Ebola-free after 42 days with no new cases. The country will now enter a 90-day period of heightened surveillance to make sure the virus does not return. The National Ebola Response Centre (NERC) will continue to operate until the end of the year.

“For us, Ebola is not over. We need your help to treat the many many health problems we still suffer from. And remember those who died at the hands of Ebola, and especially the children who have ben affected by this outbreak,” Yusuf Kamara, a survivor who lost 16 members of his family said.

Sierra Leone recorded the first Ebola case in May 2014, 8,704 people were infected and 3,589 have died from the fatal illness.
