African Superstars Rock Lagos At AFRIMA 2015

It was a phenomenal night for African music, culture, entertainment,
fashion and  African music lovers across the world as the All Africa
Music Awards, AFRIMA in partnership with the African Union held the 2015
edition on Sunday, November 15 at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos,
Nigeria to delight of live and broadcast audience.

In addition to the many scintillating performances from the five regions
of Africa as led by joint rendition of Paul Simon’s ‘Diamond on the
soles of her shoes’ by Cobhams and  Ladysmith Black Mambazo, there were
surprises and emotions at this year’s award ceremony. Some of this
year’s big winners who went home with the priceless 23.9 Karat gold
plated AFRIMA trophy are Charlotte Dipanda from Cameroon who went home
with 3 awards; Album of the Year, Best Female in Central Africa, and
Best Artiste in African Contemporary. Diamond Platnumz from Tanzania
also won Artiste of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Male Artiste in
Eastern Africa.

Cassper Nyovest from South Africa, has in his kit two awards; Best Male
Artiste in Southern Africa and Best Artiste in African Hip Hop While
Kenya group singers, Souti Sol got Best African Group/Duo/Band and
producer of the Year.

One of the high points of the award ceremony was the honour bestowed on
the former Lagos State Governor, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Africa
Pillar of Arts and Culture  and AFRIMA legendary award to the Ladysmith
Black Mambazo for still staying strong after five decades.

African  artistes who recorded their names on the award winners’ list
are Vanessa Mdee (TSA), Yemi Alade (NIG), AKA (SA), Stanley Enow (CAM),
Flavour (NIG), Tsedenia (ETH), Darey (NIG), M’vula (ANG), Olamide (NIG),
Wiyaala (GHA),  Adekunle Gold (NIG), Kiss Daniel (NIG), Jose Chameleone
(UGA), Praiz (NIG) among others.

Don Jazzy, Asa, Tara Durotoye, 7 others named Future Awards ambassadors

Maverick Music producer, Micheal Collins, Ajere, popularly called Don Jazzy, international recording artiste, Bukola Elemide (Asa) and beauty entrepreneur, Tara Fela-Durotoye have been named ambassadors of renowned youth event, The Future Awards Africa. Others include founder of LEAP Africa Ndidi Nwuneli (Nigeria), agriculture entrepreneur Nnaemeka Ikeguonu (Nigeria), activist Sangu Delle (Ghana), power entrepreneur Patrick Ngowi (Tanzania), singer Diamond Platinumz (Tanzania), change-maker Fogblanbenchi Lily Harity (Cameroon), and lawmaker Oramait Alengoil (Uganda).
“These 10 African icons have been selected from across East, West and Southern Africa because they represent the essence of TFAA. They speak to the best that Africa has, but more importantly their lives work have inspired millions to take charge of their destinies and to get involved in rebuilding their communities and their countries.There are no better ambassadors than these to drive our #AfricaNeedsYou message as we celebrate 10 years of the awards and prepare for 10 more years of impact.” Sean Obedih, a member of the awards Central Working Committee based in Ghana noted.
The ambassadors will drive the 10th year anniversary campaign for the awards across TV, radio, online and through targeted events targeted at galvanizing the global TFAA brain trust to solve problems across Africa.
“The question we are driving people to answer is very simple,” says singer Asa. “If Africa is rising and GDPs are growing then why are so many young Africans still desperately leaving Africa?”
Added Alengoil: “There is plenty to celebrate in the incredible work TFAA has done over the past 10 years across 21 countries of Africa, but there is so much work left to be done, and #AfricaNeedsYou to join us and get it done.”
As part of the 10th anniversary #AfricaNeedsYou campaign, TFAA launched a 100-city tour to build 100 hubs across the continent over the next one year. The hubs will partner with local non-governmental organisations to solve problems community by community. It will be launched officially at the awards this year on 6, December 2015.
The Future Awards Africa 2015 is powered by RED and held in partnership with the Ford Foundation, Microsoft, the US Consulate, the Canadian High Commission Nigeria and The Tony Elumelu Foundation.
The Future Awards Africa has been called the ‘Nobel Prize for Young Africans’, and the ‘most important youth awards’ by Forbes. It is a set of prizes given annually to celebrate and accelerate innovation, creativity and enterprise amongst young Africans aged 18 – 31. It has produced over 150 winners and over 1550 nominees since its first edition in 2006.

Messi unveils new boots ahead of classico


Barcelona star, Lionel Messi is on course to return to action after recovering from a knee injury. The Argentine hasn’t featured in the team since September after being injured in the La Liga game against Las Palmas two months ago. The 27 year-old has been spotted training with his teammates and it is not unlikely that he would make a comeback in this week’s Classico.

The 4-time Ballon d’Or winner today showed off a new pair of Adidas boots for the first time.The Messi15 boots were unveiled on his official facebook and twitter pages. The message on the boot read,
“A boot built to win. Aboot made from Leo Messi’s unrelenting desire to keep on winning, no matter what”.

Wike pledges to pay $20, 000 for each goal against Swaziland

Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has pledged to pay $20,000 for each goal scored against Swaziland today. The Super Eagles are currently facing Sihlangu of Swaziland in their 2018 World Cup qualifier in Port Harcourt at the moment. The Oliseh-led squad will also be treated to a reception by the Rivers State Government after the match.

Eaglets need mentorship, not national honours – Patrick Ekeji

Former
Director-General of National Sports Commission (NSC), Patrick Ekeji has advised
the government to secure the future of the players through mentorship rather
than conferring them with National honours. For the fifth time, the Amuneke tutored-side recently became the only second team to retain the FIFA U-17 World Cup with a 2-0 win against Mali. Speaking to newsmen in Owerri on Tuesday the ex-coach noted that the
players ought to be nurtured into complete, professional footballers.  
“The
whole idea of the age group championship is to bring the young players together
in a sporting environment to showcase their talents. We should be more
worried about the future of these young talents and not to confer National
honours on them.
He continued,
“In
Spain for example, most of the national players are still playing in their
domestic leagues but in Nigeria, the case is different. “If Nigeria’s
world rating must improve, we must assemble all our youthful players and
nurture them to transit into the senior team,’’ he said.

Paris Attacks: Belgium cancel Spain friendly due to security concerns

Following last friday’s attacks
at the Stade de France during the international friendly
between France and Germany which
left more than 120 people dead, The Belgian and Spanish football
federations have cancelled the international friendly between their two
teams which was scheduled to be played at the Stade Roi
Baudouin over
security concerns. The mastermind of the attacks has been traced to Belgium.
“In
consultation with the competent authorities and the Spanish national team, the
Belgian FA has decided to cancel the match. At the very end of the evening the
Belgian FA was contacted by the government, who made the recommendation not to
play tomorrow’s match. This is because the terror alert level is high and with
the current leakage of a suspicious person,” The Royal Belgian
Football Association ( RBFA) said in a statement on Tuesday.
Spain coach Vicente del Bosque
who held an impromptu press conference from the national team’s plane following
the cancellation of the game said “We don’t know for sure the reasons why it’s
been called off, but we’ve assumed. We were hoping to play the game, it was the
last of the year, but the security reasons were strong.

“We trained with tranquillity,
we’ve prepared for the game like any other, but the authorities will have felt
they couldn’t guarantee the security of everybody, the players and spectators.
We weren’t scared. We were calm in the hotel, there wasn’t any problem.
Hopefully there won’t be any more suspensions. We’re here to play sport and
entertain people.”

Dangote resigns from Dangote Flour Mills

Aliko Dangote, President Dangote Group
Billionnaire businessman, Aliko Dangote has resigned from the board of Dangote Flour Mills which recently became Tiger branded Consumer Goods Plc. Three other directors, Olakunle Alake, Asue Ighodalo and Arnold Ekpe also quit the board.  Their resignation was announced following the decision of the majority share owner of the company, South African Tiger Brands,  to reduce its financial support to the Nigerian company. There are reports that the Tiger Brands also made the decision due to their  inability to make money from Dangote Flour Mills after committing about 200 million dollars or 65 per cent equity
“Tiger Brands has decided not to provide further financial support with respect to its investment in Tiger Branded Consumer Goods Plc of Nigeria,” the company stated.
Aliko Dangote holds 10 percent equity stake in the company.
Tiger Brands board also announced that they were reviewing their investment in the business which was considered part of a broader strategy to expand in sub-Saharan Africa.
