"Our parents are together now"- Stephen Keshi’s son

Stephen Keshi Junior, one of the sons of the late Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi has expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support and condolences the family received over the loss of their patriarch.

Keshi Junior who resides in Atlanta Georgia wrote, “We’re still mourning our father, we’re still shocked and confused. Words can’t describe our feelings right now, but we want to remain joyful, remain happy, because he was a joyful and happy person. For us what helps is our parents are together now; they were together on earth for 33 years. It soothes us that they are together in heaven,” said he said.

“He was our loving father, widow, grandfather, brother, friend, pioneer, mentor and hero. Our Father was a joyful person, he hated sadness with a passion, in fact it was like Kryptonite to him. We are grateful for all the love, support and condolence from everyone on the loss of such an iconic African.”

“We appreciate all the phone calls, texts, messages and posts on social media. It is not easy to lose both parents within a 6-month period. It is important to know that you have been there for us before and will be there for us going forward. ”

“Stephen Keshi was a just man, who believed and championed the cause of every teammate when he played the game and every player when he was a coach. He served his nation and people with pride and joy. He always had a smile on his face whenever he did it.”

“His illustrious football career took him outside of Nigeria to Ivory Coast first, before he made the trip to Europe; a trip footballer’s make today and he was one of the first to embark on such journey.Our father was a man of the people; he welcomed everyone with open arms as a player and even more as a manager when he was with Togo, Mali and most recently the Super Eagles of Nigeria. ”

“As we mourn the loss of a great man, we want everyone to join us in celebrating his remarkable life and even though it was taken away from us quicker than expected, we hope his life serves as a great example, his experience and how he fought for what was right is seen by younger generations as something to aspire to.”

"No one knows what we have suffered through" Neymar reacts to Brazil backlash.

Brazil’s elimination from the Copa America tournament few hours ago attracted a lot of backlash from the football world with many even suggesting that his absence contributed largely to the team’s failure. They were kicked out of the race by Peru’s Raul Ruidiaz  controversial handball goal. Soccer star, Neymar who thinks the outpour of criticisms is unfair on his teammate has some choice words for the critics. 

“No one knows what we have suffered through to be there and defend the Selecao. “To wear the national team shirt is an honor and you have all done that with love. Now a whole lot of people are going to start talking s—, they can go to hell. Football is like this. I am Brazilian and I will go to the end with you.” The Barcelona player wrote.

RMD reflects on acting career as he receives AMAA honour

Distinguished actor, Richard Mofe Damijo has reflected on his journey in the make-believe world. There is no doubt the Delta State indigene has enjoyed massive success in a career that spans about 3 decades. Even when he took a break from the silverscreen to pursue another passion, his influence never waned. He continued to be a force to reckon with in the industry. 

It however came as no surprise when he was honoured with a Life Time Achievement Award alongside Nollywood’s biggest power couple Olu Jacobs and Joke Silva at the just concluded AMAA Awards.  
Reacting to the honour, the 54 year-old said
“So in just 33 years as a “pro-actor” I get a life time achievement award. I am humbled, thrilled and super-grateful. I want to thank all my Directors. Producers. Teachers. Colleagues… I want to particularly acknowledge Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan. Dr Mike Adenuga. My fans who continue to authenticate me. My wife who is my solid rock and safe place. And everyone that has made it with me on this incredible journey. It was an amazing night and who better to be on hand to do it for me than Ebubedike himself. The lion… Pete Edochie. I was also blessed to be in the distinguished company of 2 of my favourite people who are not just actors to me Mr and Mrs olu Jacobs. Thanks #AMAA Dreams do come true if u hold on tight. This Warri boy has made good. It just tells me, everybody else can once they believe. God’s grace has indeed been more than sufficient for me. Brazil knocked out of Copa America

Brazil have been knocked out of the Copa America tournament for the first time in 30 years. Peru who eliminated them from the group stage did so in a controversial fashion. 

Brazil needed only a draw to qualify for the quarter-finals as winners of Group B, and were on course to cruise into victory but Peru’s Raul Ruidiaz handball goal ensured that they were dumped out of the race.

Euro 2016 : Highlights Day 1-3

Day (1)

France 2  Romania 1:

France beat Romania in the opening game of Euro 2016.  Giroud opened the scoring for France at the 57th minute, Romania struck back eight minutes later through Bogdan Stancu after Nicolae Stanciu was tripped by Patrice Evra in the box. France however emerged the winner of the night after a stunning  89th minute by Dimitri Payet.

(Day 2)
Albania 0  Switzerland 1: The Swiss, had an early lead through a Fabian Schar header and couldn’t extend it even when Lorik Cana was sent off after 36 minutes.  Albania, who were very impressive during the game  missed an opportunity to level with their opponents.

Wales 2  Slovakia 1:  Gareth Bale opened the game 3 of the Euro 2016 with a goal (free kick) for Wales in the 10th minute. Ondrej Duda came through for Slovakia by scoring a 61st minute equalizer. And at the 81st minute, Hal Robson-Kanu converted an Aaron Ramsey assist to seal a victory for the Welsh.

England 1  Russia 1: England were better for the most match of the game. Their breakthrough came through Eric Dier’s free kick in the 73rd minute. Russia however equalised at the 92nd minute of the match via Vasili Berezutski header.

Turkey 0  Croatia 1: Real Madrid midfielder, Luka Modric’s powerful volley helped Croatia to victory over Turkey.

Poland 1  Norther Ireland 0:  Poland claimed their first-ever tournament win after beating Northern Ireland 1-0 thanks to an Arkadiusz Milik goal.

Germany 2  Ukraine 0: Shkodran Mustafi’s first goal for the national side  and Bastian Schweinsteiger’s clincher sunk Ukraine in the Euro 2016 opener.

"He briefly said something about death" Shuaibu Amodu's eldest son on their last conversation

Abdul-Aziz Amodu, the eldest son of the late NFF technical director, Amodu Shuaibu, has shared the last conversation he had with his father which was Friday morning. In an interview with PUNCH, the 26 year-old graduate said,  “I am to go for the NYSC programme this month. So, I called him yesterday (Friday) to just discuss concerning the programme.”

“He didn’t pick my call; he called me back and told me that he was very busy and I should calm down and that he would get to Okpella today (Saturday), so that we could see and talk. That was the last thing he said to me.”

“He briefly said something about death, because I asked of Stephen Keshi; I know Keshi. When I asked of him, he said that he (Keshi) was not buried immediately due to the fact that he was not a Muslim.”

“He said that he hoped I knew that if he died, nobody will wait for anybody; he would be buried immediately. I told him yes. He told me to be patient until today, before they broke the news to me.” He said.

Ex Super Eagles coach, Amodu Shuaibu is dead

Barely a week after it lost its most successful coach, Stephen Keshi, the Nigerian sports industry has been dealt another blow again.  Ex Nigeria coach and NFF Technical Director, Amodu Shuaibu is dead. According to reports, he complained of chest pains & died in his sleep. He was aged  58.
May His Soul find repose. Amen
