Bowen University Students Go On Protest Over Lack of Water and Power Supply

According to reports sent to me now, some male students of Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State staged a not-too-peaceful protest today to express their displeasure over epileptic power and inadequate water supply which have been plaguing the university for some time now.
A student who craved anonymity narrated the incidence, “This issue has been going on for some time now, infact, it started during the tenure of the last VC but it wasn’t as bad as this, this new VC made it worse. At times they’ll supply light for just few hours especially in the morning, it’s just so annoying and painful. We pay over N400,000 as school fees yet we don’t enjoy all the basic amenities a private university should have. It’s not just fair.”
Didn’t you make formal complaints? “Yes we did but it’s been story upon story. Nothing has really been done.”

Heard some places were razed down, “Sadly it was, it took a dramatic dimension, we didn’t know it was going to escalate to this level. It just shows the level of frustration that has set in. The boys left their hostels for the temporary site and burnt some stuffs down. That’s all I can say for now.”

A quick update on the story. another source hinted, “you won’t believe they gave us a timetable for eating and to rub insult upon injury students were asked to take their coolers to the cafeteria, no buying of take aways. The most ridiculous is they were asked to leave their halls by 6am and not return by 4pm amongst other annoying rules. yes they destroyed things,  they had to use tear gas  to stop them.”

  1. This is pure frustration on the part of the students given the economic situation in Nigeria. One would expect private universities to provide a conducive environment for learning but you would discover that some of these private universities are not different from their public counterparts.

  2. Why didn't they burn the whole school? Idiots! What happened to carrying placards and matching to their VC's office or house. You destroyed things just to show the extent of your frustration? Animals!

  3. Mr Anonymous, you don't need to curse people to prove your point, it just shows you are low class too. Anyways to the issue at hand, i Just feel that the student have a right to air their opinion, even though they took the wrong route. The VC should rise up to his responsibilities, because if these accusations are true, then he is even worse off than the Federal government.

  4. We all know that, there was no other way to do this. Although they went too far, but peaceful, Protest, won't help anybody. We did it doing our time and I Promise u, nothing happened. Some of us even faced SDC for peaceful protest. And we continued to suffer in silence. Now let's see how things take turn.
