The matriarch of the Awolowo clan, Chief Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo (HID) has passed on.

She died today shortly after a meeting with her family members. She was aged 99. She was reportedly looking forward to her 100th birthday ceremony on November 25.

Until her death, Mama as she was fondly called was the chairman of the Nigerian Tribune. She was also a grandmother to Mrs Dolapo Osinbajo, wife of the Vice President of Nigeria, Prof Yemi Osinbajo.
