Fears in Liberia as 15 year-old boy dies of Ebola

2 months after Liberia was declared free of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) the fatal illness has reared it’s ugly head back to the West African country.
The victim, a 15 year-old fell sick on November 14 and was admitted to hospital three days later in Monrovia. He however died yesterday. Unfortunately his parents have also tested positive to the virus. 150 people who had been in contact with the family are now being monitored.
Carissa Guild, of Doctors Without Borders (MSF), said the recent development may be caused by complacency among health workers.
“There were no cases for a while and Liberia was nearing the end of a 90-day period of heightened surveillance … It is quite possible that people were tired and got complacent,” Guild stated.
Liberia has recorded 10,600 cases and 4,800 deaths since the outbreak.
