Bayern Munich continued their good start to the season by defeating Hoffenheim 2-1 even though they had to play with a man less. Kevin Volland gave Hoffenheim the lead after less than 10 seconds, but Thomas Muller levelled before the break. The hosts missed a penalty after Jerome Boateng handled the ball inside the area, earning a second yellow card.
Manuel Neuer spared him his blushes, though, by diving the right way to save Eugen Polanski’s spot-kick. Lewandowski tested goalkeeper Oliver Baumann as Bayern continued to create the better chances, and their persistence paid off with the same striker turning in a pass from Douglas Costa.
Bayern retain their first position on the log with the victory.
